Break Mega Crystal clusters around Lumiose City with a Pokémon’s move to collect Mega Shards. Take those shards to Quasartico Inc. headquarters to exchange them for Mega Stones; then have a compatible Pokémon hold the appropriate stone to Mega Evolve.
How to find Mega Crystal clusters
Mega Crystal clusters are scattered around Lumiose City. Look for the clusters as you explore; they are the source of Mega Shards.
How to break the crystals and collect Mega Shards
- Approach a Mega Crystal cluster.
- Send out a Pokémon and use one of its moves on the cluster. Nintendo describes Pokémon using their moves to break the clusters; you do not need a separate mining tool.
- Collect the Mega Shards produced by the broken cluster.
The official Pokémon guide describes the clusters as a source of shards, but does not state how many shards a cluster yields or when clusters respawn. Neither an exact yield nor a reliable farming interval is established by the official guidance cited here.
How to use Mega Shards
Exchange Mega Shards for Mega Stones at Quasartico Inc. headquarters. Shards are the exchange resource; they are not the item a Pokémon holds to Mega Evolve. The official guide does not publish individual shard costs or a complete list of exchange stock.

How to use a Mega Stone
Once you have the relevant Mega Stone, give it to a compatible Pokémon to hold. A compatible Pokémon must hold the appropriate Mega Stone to Mega Evolve; collecting shards alone does not trigger Mega Evolution.
Another place to get Mega Stones
The Stone Emporium is also identified as a source of Mega Stones and related evolution items. The official guide does not provide enough detail to compare its full stock, prices, or unlock conditions with Quasartico Inc.’s shard exchange.
