To earn assists in Marvel Rivals, support a teammate during a fight—especially by healing them or applying a useful buff—then stay involved as they eliminate an enemy. Guides describe those support actions as routes to assist credit, but the exact current formula is not publicly established in the official material cited here. Simply damaging an enemy and letting a teammate finish them is not a dependable method.
Which actions can earn an assist?
Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play, team-based PvP shooter listed for Windows and console platforms on the official Marvel Rivals site. Its official page does not explain how assist credit is calculated, so the practical advice comes from gameplay guides rather than a published rules formula.
Heal or buff a teammate who gets an elimination
Insider Gaming describes healing or applying a gameplay-modifying buff to a teammate who then eliminates an enemy as a route to an assist. Its examples include Luna Snow’s healing and Rocket Raccoon’s healing spheres and damage-amplifying ability. These are guide-reported examples, not guarantees that every supported elimination will award credit. (Insider Gaming)
Other support effects may count
A January 21, 2025 guide by Jacob Woodward also lists shields and crowd control as ways to contribute to an ally’s elimination. That guide says a crowd-control effect needs to still be active when the ally lands the killing blow. Treat that timing detail as the guide’s description at publication; mechanics may change with updates. (ReadWrite)

Damage alone is not a reliable shortcut
Do not assume that tagging an enemy and letting someone else finish them will automatically count. Insider Gaming specifically distinguishes the game’s assist approach from the common shooter assumption that damage alone is enough. Neither guide establishes a complete current formula, damage threshold, or universal timing window.
How to work toward assist challenges
- Stay near teammates during engagements. Position close enough to apply support while allies are fighting, rather than healing from far away or arriving only after the fight.
- Support the ally who is actively pressuring an enemy. Apply healing or a relevant buff during the engagement, and continue supporting them through the elimination where possible.
- If using crowd control, time it carefully. Woodward’s January 2025 guide says the effect should still be active when the ally gets the elimination; the current game’s precise timing rule has not been confirmed in official material.
- Check whether the game credited the assist. Woodward describes an assist indicator and a post-match scoreboard as ways to check. If the credit does not appear, it may reflect the game’s underlying rules or timing—not necessarily a missed damage tag.
Which hero and mode make progress easier?
For a lower-pressure attempt, Insider Gaming recommends Practice Vs. AI and suggests Rocket Raccoon, directing healing spheres toward teammates likely to secure eliminations. This is a practical guide recommendation, not a promise that healing will produce an assist on every takedown.

The same guide quotes a challenge asking players to secure 100 assists in Quick Match, Competitive, or Practice Vs. AI. Challenge requirements can change by season, so check the objective shown in your own game before choosing a mode; do not treat that quoted target or mode list as a permanent rule.
| Approach | Why it may help | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Healing during a teammate’s fight | Healing is a guide-reported route, and can be applied repeatedly with heroes such as Rocket Raccoon. | Healing alone does not guarantee assist credit; the teammate still needs to get an elimination. |
| Applying a gameplay-modifying buff | Insider Gaming cites buffs as another route and names Rocket Raccoon’s damage-amplifying ability as an example. | The guides do not publish a complete list of qualifying buffs or a guaranteed formula. |
| Using crowd control | Woodward lists it among support effects that may contribute to an ally’s elimination. | That guide says the effect must remain active at the killing blow; this detail is patch-sensitive. |
| Practicing in Practice Vs. AI | Insider Gaming recommends it as a lower-pressure way to pursue assists. | Confirm the mode is eligible for the challenge currently displayed in your game. |
Why might healing not increase the assist total?
- The supported teammate did not get an elimination. The guides describe assists in connection with an ally securing a takedown, not healing by itself.
- Your support may not have met the game’s credit conditions. No official source cited here specifies the exact formula or timing window.
- You relied on damage instead of support. Damage tagging alone is not established as a dependable assist route.
- A crowd-control effect ended too soon. The January 2025 guide says it should still be active when the ally lands the killing blow.
- The challenge excludes the mode you chose. Eligibility can depend on the challenge wording currently shown in-game.
For platform details and general game information, see the official Marvel Rivals site. The official resources cited here do not provide an assist-credit formula; the mechanic advice above is attributed to guides rather than presented as an official rule.
