How NYT Connections works
The New York Times describes Connections as a daily puzzle in which players sort 16 words into four groups of four. Words can plausibly fit more than one category, and the Times says its editors curate words and categories using the Oxford Dictionary. The puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone and is available on NYT Games digital platforms. NYT Connections rules and access information
The Times Help Center says: “Each puzzle has exactly one solution and is meant to be tricky by having words that could fit into multiple categories.”

Playing older Connections puzzles
The NYT Connections archive reaches back to June 12, 2023 and is available to All Access and Games subscribers on the web or in the Games app, according to the Help Center. Archive play counts toward Connections statistics but does not affect streaks, and a completed archived puzzle cannot be replayed. Subscription and archive access terms can change, so check the current NYT Help Center details.
