After the encounter with Solder and the alarm, leave the basement and turn left into the corridor.

Continue to the double doors. Take the first door on the right, then pass through the hole in the wall to get outside.

Head east to the large pipe running north. Move north beside it, using the pipe for cover.

At the northeast corner of the encampment, turn left to travel west toward the gate.

Use the truck positioned by the gate to climb over the perimeter and leave the Sphere grounds.
This route is described as quieter than the western front, not enemy-free. Keep moving and engage opponents only when necessary. GSC’s Beginner’s Guide & FAQs recommends using cover, conserving limited ammunition and medical supplies, and retreating if a fight becomes too dangerous.
Why the west entrance advice may differ by version
An XboxAchievements walkthrough published November 20, 2024 warns that enemies repeatedly spawn near the west main door, making it a poor escape route. GSC’s later Major Patch 1.2 notes say an issue with NPCs spawning in front of the player at the Sphere was fixed. The walkthrough reflects the behavior it reported at the time; that exact spawn pattern is not guaranteed in every current save.

Use the pipe and other available cover while moving rather than crossing exposed ground unnecessarily.

Do not stop to fight every enemy if you can continue toward the truck safely.

If a fight is too dangerous, retreat and reassess instead of spending scarce supplies trying to force through.
A Game8 walkthrough excerpt updated December 18, 2024, also mentions an upper passage from Solder’s room via a boiler room and ladder to a catwalk, but that excerpt does not provide a complete route. The corridor, broken wall, pipe, and truck directions above form the fully described escape path.
