Spoilers for Act One and Lae’zel’s epilogue. Take the Githyanki egg from the Hatchery in Crèche Y’llek, keep it rather than giving it to Lady Esther, and ensure Lae’zel survives to the epilogue. She then says the egg hatched and names the boy Xan.
How to get the Githyanki egg
- Find Lady Esther in the Mountain Pass. Speak with her to start the Act One quest “Steal a Githyanki Egg.” She wants an egg for the Society of Brilliance.
- Enter the Hatchery at Crèche Y’llek. Speak with caretaker Varsh Ko’kuu, who fears the last egg will be destroyed before it hatches.
- Persuade Ko’kuu to let you take it. Promise either to raise the egg yourself or to take it to a more forgiving crèche. Either assurance can persuade him to relinquish it.
- Take the egg. When you reach it, choose the option to pick it up. Do not step on it.
- Keep the egg. Do not hand it over to Esther. For the clearest route to Lae’zel’s egg-related epilogue, keep it with her rather than leaving it in a camp chest.
What happens in Lae’zel’s epilogue
If the egg has not been given away and Lae’zel survives to the epilogue, she says it hatched and names the boy Xan, a name meaning “freedom” in the Gith language. She is proud that he can choose the path in life that calls to him, and speaks about the kind of adventurer her adoptive son has become.
The documented outcome does not establish that you need to romance Lae’zel. Her broader epilogue varies with her Vlaakith and Orpheus choices and whether she stays in Faerûn or departs; those choices are separate from the core egg conditions described here.
Why you should not give the egg to Esther
Esther seeks the egg for the Society of Brilliance, while Ko’kuu wants it to have a chance to hatch. Giving Esther a genuine egg sends it into the Society’s later storyline involving the grown progeny Ptaris, rather than the documented Lae’zel outcome. Keeping it is the important choice if you want Lae’zel to raise the hatchling.

A separate account describes an egg left in the Elfsong Tavern camp chest before the final battle being alluded to in epilogue newspaper clippings. That is not the same as the documented route in which Lae’zel raises the child, so do not rely on the chest if that is the outcome you want.
Patch and outcome notes
Larian’s Patch 6 notes confirm that the game added “new dialogues and reactivity for Lae’zel regarding the githyanki egg from Crèche Y’llek.” The notes do not spell out every inventory or ending condition. The detailed egg and epilogue descriptions come from the community-maintained quest reference and Lae’zel reference; dialogue can vary with patch level and game state.
