Those announcements do not establish that it is playable now or that another return has been announced. The instructions below explain how rewards worked in those runs; check Blizzard’s current World of Warcraft announcements before planning to play.
How Plunderstorm rewards worked
The reward system changed between the two documented runs. In 2024, players progressed through a reward track; in the January 2025 return, they earned Plunder and spent it in the Plunderstore. Pets and mounts were available in both runs, but the methods were different.

Blizzard’s March 19, 2024 announcement describes the original reward track. The January 2025 return announcement and its Plunderstorm overview describe the later store-based system.
How to get rewards in the 2024 run
- Open World of Warcraft and select Plunderstorm from the game menu. Blizzard said access required a WoW subscription or game time.
- Join matches and earn progression by surviving and plundering.
- Advance the reward track to claim its listed rewards, including pets, mounts, titles, cosmetics, and Trader’s Tender.
You did not have to win to claim rewards. Blizzard put it plainly: “A victory is not required to claim the spoils of a well-fought fight.” The announcement said rewards were available for modern WoW and Wrath of the Lich King Classic progression realms. It also said the mode sat outside normal character progression in those games.

How to get rewards in the January 2025 return
- Play Plunderstorm matches and earn Plunder through activities in the match.
- Open the Plunderstore and use your Plunder to purchase available rewards.
- Choose from the items offered in that run, which Blizzard described as including pets, mounts, new and returning transmog, and more.
Blizzard’s 2025 overview says non-elite enemies respawned, creating additional opportunities to earn Plunder. It also mentions map points of interest, enemy spawn camps, and horse spawn points. The official overview does not establish the full item-by-item catalog or the Plunder price of each reward.
What to expect in a match
Blizzard described matches as lasting 10–15 minutes, with 60 players and one winner: the last player standing. Players could acquire abilities by killing creatures and enemies, looting chests, and avoiding the encroaching storm. These details come from the historical event announcements and should not be assumed to describe a future return exactly.

Is Plunderstorm available now?
The official sources cited here establish limited-time runs in 2024 and January 2025, not availability on October 8, 2026. They also do not confirm a future return. Check Blizzard’s current WoW announcements for a new event notice before attempting to follow the historical access steps; if Plunderstorm is not active, these rewards cannot be earned through the mode at that time.
