What do the 2025 player counts actually measure?
Steam Charts reports concurrent users for the Call of Duty Steam app (app ID 1938090). Because the app groups multiple Call of Duty titles, its figures cannot show how many of those users were playing Warzone specifically. They also exclude activity on consoles and other platforms. April was the strongest month in this 2025 series: Steam Charts lists an average of 69,431.38 concurrent app users and a peak of 138,335. July’s corresponding figures were 51,163.93 average and 90,230 peak. The monthly averages and peaks describe the shared Steam app, not Warzone’s population. Steam Charts
Why can’t the number be narrowed to Warzone?
Call of Duty uses a shared Steam hub where players select among titles. The public Steam figures do not break out Warzone from the other included games, and they do not include console players. Esports.net also repeats estimates from Activeplayer.io of roughly 13 million daily users and 48 million monthly users. The evidence available does not establish a transparent method for those estimates, so they should not be treated as official or verified counts.
What does Activision’s 60-million figure mean?
Activision said in a 2020 investor presentation that Warzone had brought in more than 60 million players since its March 10 launch. That was a cumulative milestone measured from launch, not the number playing concurrently or the number of monthly active users today. It cannot be used as a current player count. How to read Warzone player-count claims
- Check whether a figure is Warzone-only or for a shared Call of Duty app. Steam’s published figures are for the shared app.
- Check the metric: concurrent average, concurrent peak, daily users, monthly users, and lifetime players measure different things.
- Check platform coverage. Steam counts do not establish a total for console and other platforms.
- Look for a dated, transparent source. No official dated statement in the cited material provides a current Warzone-only concurrent count.
