Bad enough to carry real account risk, but not enough evidence to say that every player who used it will be banned—or that any particular Tombstone duplication method still works. Activision’s MWIII Season 1 notes document fixes for Tombstone bugs and closure of “various duplication exploits associated with Tombstone Soda.” Its enforcement policy classifies exploiting game code as glitching and allows sanctions, but gives no Tombstone-specific ban rate.
What the Tombstone glitch does—and what “bad” means
The issue here is duplication associated with Tombstone Soda in MWIII Zombies. “Bad” has two distinct meanings: the exploit could affect gameplay by duplicating items, and using an exploit can create enforcement risk for the account. A history of patches does not establish whether a specific method works now, and a policy warning about possible sanctions is not evidence of a confirmed ban wave.

What Activision has fixed
Activision’s MWIII Season 1 patch notes, credited to Sledgehammer Games and Treyarch, record several Tombstone-related fixes. They say a Tombstone would no longer fail to appear in the next session if a player exfilled while in last stand. A later entry addresses Tombstones spawning in the center of the map, cases where players failed to receive essence when interacting with one, and “various duplication exploits associated with Tombstone Soda.”
This establishes that developers addressed multiple bugs and duplication paths. It does not establish that every possible method, including future or platform-specific variants, was eliminated.

Can you get banned for using it?
Activision’s Call of Duty Security and Enforcement Policy defines “Glitching” as “Abusing an exploit in game code or other established rule of play.” The policy applies to MWIII: it covers Call of Duty console and PC titles released after Modern Warfare (2019).
If Activision finds a policy violation, possible consequences include temporary or permanent bans, inventory or stat corrections, limited matchmaking, and other restrictions. The policy says temporary ban lengths can vary with the severity of the infraction. It does not say that every Tombstone user is automatically banned; enforcement depends on the nature and severity of the violation and the security team’s decision. The account holder is responsible for infractions on the account, even if someone else was playing.

Is the glitch still working?
The official sources do not verify that any particular Tombstone duplication method works on the current build. The MWIII known-issues list reviewed on October 8, 2026 did not mention Tombstone. That is only an observation about the list at that time: its omission does not confirm that every related glitch is fixed.
Without an official notice confirming current functionality, treat claims that a method still works as unverified rather than as a reliable guide. The documented patch history supports saying that Activision closed various Tombstone Soda duplication exploits—not that every exploit is gone or that a specific one remains usable.

What players can reasonably conclude
- Gameplay: Activision documented and addressed Tombstone bugs and several associated duplication exploits.
- Account risk: Exploit abuse falls within the policy’s definition of glitching, which can bring sanctions.
- What is unknown: The official sources provide no Tombstone-specific ban frequency and do not settle whether a particular method works on the current build.
