The New York Times Strands puzzle for May 30, 2024, is game #88. Its theme is “Pump it up!” and the spangram is HIGHHEELS. The seven theme words are CHUNKY, BLOCK, CONE, KITTEN, CUBAN, WEDGE, and STILETTO.
Hints for Strands #88
If you want to solve the board before seeing the answers, “Pump it up!” can point in more than one direction. Forbes offered “Footwear” as an additional clue, while TechRadar suggested “If the shoe fits” as a spangram hint.
How the theme fits
The answer cluster shifts the theme away from literal pumping: the words describe types or shapes of heels. HIGHHEELS names the shared category, while CHUNKY, BLOCK, CONE, KITTEN, CUBAN, WEDGE, and STILETTO identify heel styles or forms. Forbes, TechRadar, and Try Hard Guides agree on the answer set for this dated puzzle. Forbes · TechRadar · Try Hard Guides
How Strands works
Strands is a grid-based word-search puzzle: find words that fit the theme, including a spangram that names the connection and reaches between opposite sides of the board. Forbes describes the grid as six rows by eight columns. Try Hard Guides notes that entering non-theme words can earn hints, with every three such words yielding a hint that reveals a theme word.
