In Atomfall, skills are unlocked with Training Stimulants, not ordinary experience points. Open your backpack, go to the Skills tab, and spend stimulants on available skills. To unlock a specialized branch, first find its Training Manual. Stimulants are limited, so plan your upgrades rather than expecting to buy everything.
How do I unlock skills in Atomfall?
- After the tutorial, open your backpack and select the Skills tab.
- Collect Training Stimulants by exploring and completing Leads or quests.
- Spend stimulants on skills shown in the menu. If a branch is locked, find its corresponding Training Manual first.
Rebellion Senior Programmer Rich May described the system in an Xbox Wire guide published March 24, 2025: “As you explore you will also uncover Manuals that teach you new skills – and unlock them by finding Training Stimulants.”

How many Training Manuals and skills are there?
MapMaster reports eight unique Training Manual types and 13 copies across the world; duplicate copies do not unlock an additional branch and can be bartered. Destructoid describes 12 skills available from the start and 24 more behind manuals, for 36 total. These are guide-reported counts, not independently verified game statistics.
The routes below are reported by Destructoid and MapMaster. Merchant stock, story states, keys, and other progression requirements can affect when an option is available.

Where do I find Training Stimulants?
Guides report stimulants in crates and on surfaces during exploration, as well as rewards for completing Leads or quests. MapMaster identifies B.A.R.D. crates as a reliable source and reports larger concentrations in the Interchange. It also points to caches behind Signal Redirector gates in Bunker L8, a Casterfell Woods tower, and the poison-gas room in Bunker L9.

Can you unlock every skill in one playthrough?
The guides warn that the available stimulant supply is not enough to purchase every skill. Choose a direction before spending: prioritize the Manual and upgrades that support how you want to play, then compare costs in the Skills tab.
- Stealth: weigh quieter movement and takedowns against extra damage to unaware enemies.
- Melee: compare attack-power upgrades with the heart-rate costs associated with fighting.
- Ranged combat: decide whether firearms or bows better suit your approach.
- Crafting: consider Gunsmith and Deep Pockets for equipment and carrying utility.
The guides do not establish a universally best build. Some branches and stimulant caches are progression-gated, so a missing Manual or cache may require a later story state, key, or facility access.
