The Spear’s documented unlock route in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III was a mid-season sector in the Season 5 Battle Pass. How the Spear originally unlocked in MW3
Call of Duty’s Season 5 Reloaded announcement says the base weapon unlocked “Via a new mid-season Sector in the Season 5 Battle Pass.” This describes the Season 5 route, not proof that the sector remains available after that season.

The Spear was introduced as a melee weapon during MWIII’s Season 5 content cycle. Call of Duty described it as extending melee reach and being throwable; the announcement also says players spawn with three Spears and can retrieve Spears they throw. The Season 5 patch notes provide further official context for the weapon’s introduction.
What if you missed the Season 5 sector?
The official Season 5 announcement does not establish a current post-season unlock route for players who did not claim the Spear then. Because available unlock options can depend on what the live game client offers, inspect the Spear’s entry in the weapon or challenge menus and follow any route shown there. Call of Duty’s MWIII leveling guide explains that in-game challenge menus are used to find challenges that unlock items, including weapons; it does not confirm that the Spear currently has such a challenge.

Base weapon unlocks and camo challenges are different
The Color Wave and Glitch challenges named in the Season 5 Reloaded announcement unlock Spear camos. They are not the historical route for unlocking the base weapon. If you are trying to obtain the Spear itself, check its own unlock entry rather than treating a camo challenge as the weapon unlock.
