1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSpoilers: Silent Hill f’s scarecrow field puzzle has five selections, and the correct scarecrow changes with the riddle setting. Use the matching Story, Hard, or Lost in the Fog list below; at each group, read the clue, take the nail from the matching figure, then follow the direction indicated by its arm.
How the scarecrow puzzle works
The five-stage sequence takes place in the fields and abandoned houses on the way to Rinko’s house in Ebisugaoka, after you follow Shu. At each group, read the clue attached to the front scarecrow and compare its details with the figures nearby: their poses, weapons, masks, hair, positions, and relationships to one another. Remove the nail from the matching scarecrow, then continue in the direction indicated by its arm.

A wrong choice can animate scarecrows into attackers, putting your health and weapon integrity at risk. Completing all five stages without a wrong selection is reported to unlock the Acupuncture Specialist achievement or trophy. The walkthroughs below follow PC Gamer’s clue-by-clue solutions; if a visual description does not match your screen, prioritize the in-game clue and compare the actual figures rather than relying on a character name alone. Another guide describes some figures differently, and no official Konami solution sheet is cited by the available guides.
Story riddle solutions
- “Why do you always have to be different than everyone else? Freak” — Choose the scarecrow on the left looking at the floor.
- “Honestly. You’re helpless without me” — Choose the short-haired scarecrow in the middle, resembling Hinako. A Rinko-like scarecrow also looks toward it.
- “I’ll be your friend. Otherwise, you’d be so miserably alone” — Choose the Hinako-like scarecrow on the right.
- “Tell me, truly. You two aren’t anything more than friends, right? I’ve always been watching you when you weren’t looking, you know” — Choose the Hinako-like scarecrow in the middle, between figures resembling Rinko and Shu.
- “You. Yes, you” — Choose the Hinako-like scarecrow at the back.
Hard riddle solutions
- “I’ll put on my polite smile for now” — Choose the figure on the left with a smiling face and a frowning mask.
- “What it’s like to have been deceived by you for so long?” — Choose the middle scarecrow with a sickle in its back.
- “He never once looked at me the way he looked at you. Not once” — Choose the far-left scarecrow that none of the others are looking at.
- “You’ve always been such an eyesore” — Choose the scarecrow resembling Rinko.
- “You hurt me, and even hurt him too. Do you know how it feels to force a smile when I’m staring at that disgusting face of yours?” — Choose the rear scarecrow with its head hanging down.
Lost in the Fog riddle solutions
- “I think I’ll give you a standing ovation” — Choose the left figure bent backward with Rinko-like hair.
- “Good riddance. It feels as though I finally got this painful burden off my chest” — Choose the Rinko-like figure toward the back.
- “You hurt him, and how you’re leaving him behind. I hope you suffer for what you’ve done” — Choose the Hinako-like scarecrow at the back.
- “You were such a thorn in my side. Always getting between me and him” — Choose the Hinako-like scarecrow between a male scarecrow and the Rinko-like figure.
- “Goodbye, and don’t ever show your face again. Go do your own thing, just like you always have” — Choose the lone Hinako-like scarecrow northwest near the hay bales. Fallen scarecrows can help indicate the route, but this is the final target.
Why a guide description may not match your screen
Guides do not always emphasize the same visual detail. For the first Story clue, for example, PC Gamer identifies the left figure looking at the floor, while Silent Hill Memories describes a girl holding a sickle; the fan guide calls attention to the only girl openly carrying a knife. Those descriptions are not established as identical. Use the riddle and the figure’s position and appearance in your game together.
#1 Best Overall
- Fully Remade to terrify modern audiences
- KONAMI's intense psychological horror masterpiece SILENT HILL 2 is made exclusively for PlayStation 5
- The main protagonist James Sunderland searches for clues in the namesake town, after receiving a mysterious letter from his wife Mary… who has long been dead
- Experience the eerie monsters and other manifestations of James' consciousness reworked after 20 years
- Made with state-of-the-art technology to play on modern entertainment systems in 4K
There is also a difference in how guides describe Hard clue three: PC Gamer points to the far-left figure none of the others are watching, while Silent Hill Memories describes the target in relation to a boy with his back turned. For Lost in the Fog clue five, follow the fallen figures’ directional cues toward the northwest hay bales, then select the lone Hinako-like scarecrow there.

Konami lists Silent Hill f for PS5, Steam, and Xbox Series X|S on its US product page. Its September 25, 2025 launch announcement said physical and digital editions were available, including physical console versions. Konami’s November 13, 2025 Patch 1.10 notice documents a new Casual action difficulty and optional skipping for selected New Game+ sections; it does not state that the scarecrow riddles changed. Those action-difficulty updates should not be confused with the Story, Hard, and Lost in the Fog riddle settings used in this guide.
