Choose a path by who needs to use it and where it leads: regular paths form the park’s general circulation network, queue paths carry guests toward ride and flume entrances, and staff paths separate operational access from guest areas. Planet Coaster 2’s pathing tool supports layouts from narrow, winding walkways to broad plazas, and lets you create, edit, and connect paths.
Which path type should you use?
| Path type | Who uses it | What it connects | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular path | General park circulation | Park areas and guest-facing destinations | The main network between attractions, shops, and facilities |
| Queue path | Guests waiting for an attraction | The approach to a ride or flume entrance | Lines that feed an attraction |
| Staff path | Staff | Operational areas | Keeping behind-the-scenes movement separate from guest routes |
The three roles are described in Xbox Wire’s Planet Coaster 2 guide. It emphasizes regular paths as connections across the park, queue paths for ride and flume entrances, and staff paths as a way to keep guests away from operational areas.
Regular paths: build the guest-facing network
Use regular paths for the routes guests take between areas and destinations such as shops, facilities, and attractions. They are the general-purpose choice, rather than a substitute for the dedicated line leading into a ride.
Queue paths: route the line to an attraction
Use a queue path for the waiting route into a ride or flume. It has a different purpose from the paths guests use to circulate around the rest of the park, so make the transition from the main network to the attraction’s queue clear.

Staff paths: separate operations from visitors
Use staff paths where staff need access behind the scenes and guests should not wander. Their purpose is operational separation, not extending the public walkway network.
How to plan a queue that works
Start with the attraction entrance, then decide how guests will reach it from the regular path network. A queue can be long without solving every reason guests may avoid an attraction: Xbox Wire notes that prestige, scenery, and ride Excitement, Fear, and Nausea ratings can affect attraction choices.

- Make the route from the main path to the queue easy to follow.
- Allow enough queue space for the demand you expect, without assuming that a longer line will make an attraction more appealing.
- If guests are choosing other attractions, use heatmaps to identify areas that may need attention, as Xbox Wire recommends.
A Steam Community pathing guide offers additional queue-building suggestions, including winding a line and decorating it with scenery. It also describes queues as having an entrance and an exit and says a line may spill onto regular paths if the available queue space is insufficient. Treat those as community guidance rather than guaranteed current specifications.
Use the pathing tool to shape the park
The redesigned pathing tool is intended for flexible layouts, from tight, twisting walkways to wide plazas, and supports creating, editing, and connecting paths. Choose the layout to suit the route: a plaza can serve as a broad connection point, while a narrower winding path can fit a more constrained route. The official overview describes these capabilities but does not provide a complete interface walkthrough.
