Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo win fights in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, avoid charging into groups: use stealth where possible, then combine blocks, dodges, pushes, grabs and whip attacks to create an opening. Pick up useful objects, watch for environmental hazards, and lower the separate Action Experience setting if combat is still too punishing.
Approach a fight on your terms
Stealth is often the safer way to begin an encounter. MachineGames design director Jens Andersson said, “This is not a game where you just rush straight into a group of enemies and expect to take them down.” If you can move unseen, use that time to thin out opposition or choose a better position before combat starts. Xbox Wire’s gameplay overview also describes stealth as an important part of many scenarios.
Before engaging, notice where you could retreat and what objects or hazards are nearby. The game’s intended combat style relies on using the surroundings, not just trading punches. Andersson described most combat as hand-to-hand fighting with the whip and nearby items.
Use defense to create an opening
In melee, mix punches with dodges, pushes, grabs, blocks and parries. The goal is to disrupt an enemy’s defense and create an opportunity for a finisher, rather than stand still and trade hits. Watch how an opponent responds, then use the opening to attack or reposition. The official gameplay overview covers these combat moves and their role in breaking down defenses.

Exact button inputs depend on your platform and control setup; consult the in-game control display rather than relying on a generic button guide.
Use the whip to control the encounter
The whip can do more than deal damage: it can provoke a reaction, disarm an opponent or pull some enemies into close-range combat. Use it to interrupt or change the spacing when a direct approach is risky. Reactions vary by enemy, so a pull that works on one opponent may not work on a larger or stronger one.
Turn objects and hazards into weapons
Pick up a nearby object when it gives you a safer or faster way to deal with an enemy. You can also push foes toward environmental hazards for a quick takedown. Weapons taken from enemies are temporary, so treat them as an opportunity in the current encounter rather than a lasting upgrade.
The revolver can be useful when you need fast damage in a dangerous moment. Xbox Wire’s 2024 gameplay preview described ammunition as seemingly limited; it did not establish a universal ammo count. Save shots for situations where speed matters rather than assuming you can fire freely.

Change combat difficulty without changing puzzle difficulty
If fights remain too difficult, adjust Action Experience separately from Adventure Experience. Bethesda Support says the settings are independent, so you can reduce combat pressure without also choosing easier puzzles or exploration guidance. After gameplay has loaded, open the Pause Menu, choose Options, and change Action Experience.
| Action Experience | What Bethesda says to expect |
|---|---|
| Light | Reduced enemy damage and fewer enemies attacking. |
| Moderate | Default setting, with average damage and moderate enemy numbers. |
| Hard | Increased damage and more enemies. |
| Very Hard | Devastating blows and overwhelming enemy numbers. |
These descriptions come from Bethesda Support’s difficulty-setting guide. Choose Adventure Experience separately according to how much exploration guidance and puzzle challenge you want.
Use skills as support, not a substitute for tactics
Skill books unlock skills using Adventure Points, which Xbox Wire’s gameplay preview says can be earned through discoveries, photos and exploration. One named example, True Grit, lets Indy survive a fatal blow once and return to the fight. It is a safety net, not a guarantee against being overwhelmed; positioning and controlling the encounter still matter.
Quick Recap
A quick fight plan
- Use stealth first if the area allows it; avoid rushing into a group.
- Identify an exit, useful objects and nearby hazards before engaging.
- Mix attacks with defensive moves to break an enemy’s guard and create an opening.
- Use the whip to interrupt, disarm or pull an opponent when that enemy is susceptible.
- Use an object or hazard to end a dangerous exchange quickly, and reserve revolver shots for urgent moments.
- If the pressure is still too high, lower Action Experience in Pause Menu > Options without changing Adventure Experience.
