To keep your items when you die, enter /gamerule keepInventory true in the world’s chat or command interface and submit it. This gamerule controls whether players keep their inventory on death. [Microsoft’s Bedrock command reference]
Turn on Keep Inventory
- Open the in-game chat or command-entry interface.
- Enter
/gamerule keepInventory trueand submit the command. - Once accepted, the rule is set to true, so players keep their inventory when they die.
The command and its effect are documented for Java and Bedrock by the Minecraft Wiki. Microsoft’s official command reference documents the gamerule for Bedrock Edition and identifies its values as true or false. Microsoft Learn
Turn Keep Inventory off
To return to normal inventory loss on death, enter /gamerule keepInventory false and submit it. The gamerule accepts either Boolean value; false disables inventory retention. [Microsoft Learn]
If the command does not work
- Check your edition and version. The official Microsoft reference linked above covers Bedrock Edition; the Minecraft Wiki documents the command for both Java and Bedrock. If the game reports an unknown gamerule, confirm the syntax supported by your installed version.
- Check command permissions. Microsoft lists the Bedrock command’s permission level as Game Directors and says it does not require cheats. In a multiplayer server or shared world, the host’s or server’s permission settings may still prevent your account from running it.
Does this keep experience points too?
The cited command documentation establishes inventory retention, but does not establish that experience points are kept. Do not assume this command preserves XP based on the inventory rule alone.
