If you can’t log in to your Epic Games account, match the message on screen to the right fix. For a forgotten password or an account Epic cannot find, start with Trouble signing in? on the Epic sign-in page. If you suspect someone changed your account, secure the email account linked to Epic first.
Start with the error message
Epic’s sign-in error guide separates common login failures. Use the branch that matches what you see:
- “There was an error logging you in, please try again.” Turn off any VPN, hosting, or proxy service and try signing in with your Epic email and password. If it still fails, reset the password.
- “Invalid Credentials.” Check that you entered the email address associated with the Epic account, then try a password reset. If you are sure the details are right, turn off browser autofill and check that your keyboard is using the expected language.
- “Sorry, your account is inactive and may not log in.” Complete account recovery before trying to sign in again.
- “The security code is invalid or expired.” Request a new email or SMS code and enter the latest one; check spam if the email has not arrived. For an authenticator app, wait for a fresh code and make sure the device’s time is set to sync automatically. Choose “Try another way” if another verification method is available. If you no longer have access to any factor, follow the 2FA recovery steps below.
- “SMS is not available.” Use email verification or an authenticator method if available. Once signed in, you can change SMS settings under Password and security.
- Cookie error. Refresh the page and allow the cookies the sign-in page requires.
Recover your account or reset a forgotten password
- Open Epic’s sign-in page and select “Trouble signing in?” Epic describes this as the entry point for account recovery and password reset in its account recovery instructions.
- Enter the email address you used for the Epic account. If Epic finds the account, follow the prompts. You may need to complete 2FA or enter a security code sent to that email before setting a new password.
- If Epic cannot find the account, choose “Recover account” in the recovery flow and follow the on-screen steps.
- If you do not remember which email you used, try likely addresses and follow Epic’s account-email guidance. If you cannot access the email account, select the lost-email option in the recovery flow.
Epic may ask for additional information during recovery; its guidance does not set out a universal checklist or review time. Do not assume the standard password-change form will work while locked out: Epic’s password-change instructions cover changing a password while signed in and require the current password.
Get past a two-factor authentication prompt
If you cannot use the 2FA method shown at sign-in, select “Try another way”. Depending on what you previously set up, you may be able to verify through email or use an authenticator app’s backup code. Epic says these backup codes are eight digits. Its 2FA lockout guidance explains the available alternatives.

After signing in, open Password and security to review your verification methods and configure one you can access. If no available method works, use Epic’s account recovery flow rather than repeatedly submitting expired codes.
If your Epic account may have been compromised
- Secure the associated email account first. If you can still access it, change its password and enable 2FA. If you have lost access, use the email provider’s recovery process.
- Start Epic account recovery. If a PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Facebook, Google, or other external account is linked, try signing in through it.
- Request recovery if the Epic email was changed. A linked-account sign-in does not resolve the problem if the Epic account now uses an email address you do not control. Submit an account recovery request.
- After regaining control, reset the Epic password and turn 2FA back on.
These steps follow Epic’s guidance for a compromised account you cannot access.

Fix a Password and Security verification loop

- Sign out, then sign in again.
- Try a different browser or device.
- Open a private or incognito browsing window.
- Try again later.
Choose the right recovery path
