To slide in Fortnite, run and hold your crouch or slide control. Epic’s keyboard example is Left Ctrl, but the button can differ by input device, game mode, and custom bindings—check your active controls in Settings if it doesn’t work.
How to slide in Fortnite
- Start running.
- While running, hold your crouch or slide control to begin sliding. Epic describes the action as holding crouch while running in its Battle Royale feature announcement.
For keyboard and mouse, Epic’s Creative movement guide uses Left Ctrl as its example. Treat that as an example, not a guarantee for every player’s current layout.
Find your slide button on keyboard or controller
Epic says controls vary by device and can be customized in-game. Rather than assume one controller button applies to every console or layout, check the binding currently shown for your input device.
- Open the in-game menu: press Esc on PC or Mac, Options on PlayStation, Menu on Xbox, or + on Switch.
- Choose Settings.
- Select the input-device tab: the arrow-keys icon for keyboard and mouse, or the gamepad icon for a controller.
- Check the crouch/slide binding and use that control while running.
These menu steps are from Epic Games Player Support. If the relevant setting is missing, check that the correct game mode is selected; available settings can depend on the mode. Epic’s controls documentation also notes that controls vary by device and can be customized in-game.

How sliding behaves
- In Epic’s Creative guidance, a slide lasts several seconds before stopping.
- Starting a sprint or jumping ends a slide early.
- A steeper downhill slope makes the slide faster. On flat ground, Epic describes slide speed as normal running speed rather than sprinting speed.
Those movement details are documented for Creative and may be affected by mode-specific or updated settings.
