In Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.5 and later, use this command to give yourself a stick with Knockback 255:
/give @s minecraft:stick[minecraft:enchantments={"minecraft:knockback":255}]
How to use the command
- Open chat or the command interface in your Java Edition world.
- Enter
/give @s minecraft:stick[minecraft:enchantments={"minecraft:knockback":255}]and run it.
The command uses Java’s item-component syntax: the component goes in square brackets after the item name, and the enchantment component maps the enchantment ID to its level. Mojang documents the component’s integer level range as 0–255 in the Java Edition 1.20.5 release notes. Commands may require cheats or operator permissions, depending on your world or server. This command format is based on the documented syntax; it has not been independently tested here.
Edition and version matter
Java Edition 1.20.5 and later
Use the command above. Java 1.20.5 changed item-stack data from the older NBT tag format to structured item components. The release notes document the enchantment component and its 0–255 level range; Mojang’s item-component documentation describes putting components in square brackets after an item name.
Java Edition before 1.20.5
The item syntax is different in older Java versions. The official material cited here establishes the 1.20.5 format change but does not provide a verified legacy command for a level 255 stick, so the command above should not be used as an older-version example.

#1 Best Overall
Bedrock Edition
Do not use the Java command as Bedrock syntax. The official Bedrock /enchant reference lists Knockback I and II, not level 255. The Bedrock /give reference also says cheats are required and lists Game Directors permission; it does not document a Bedrock method for creating Knockback 255.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why Knockback 255 is unusual
Knockback 255 is an over-level enchantment rather than a normal survival enchantment. Minecraft Help lists the ordinary maximum for Knockback as level 2 (Minecraft Enchantments). The Java command works by specifying the enchantment level directly in the item component instead of using the ordinary enchantment limit.
