If you mean becoming a skilled role-play player, focus on a community’s rules and the way you work with other players. If you mean creating mods or running experiences, FiveM offers a PC-based path from installing the client to building a first resource. These are different goals—and mods should stay out of GTA Online.
Choose what “pro” means to you
FiveM is a PC framework used to join custom multiplayer servers and create server experiences. It is not a universal qualification system, and installing mods alone does not make someone an expert. Decide whether your aim is to play role-play well or to build scripts, assets, or a server.

Server rules and role-play standards vary by community; there is no single official performance standard across FiveM servers.
If you want to become a stronger role-play player
Pick a community before adding plugins
Look for a server whose rules, moderation approach, and style suit you. Read its rules before joining, including any guidance about client-side plugins. Server operators can disable plugins, and outdated or incompatible plugins can crash the client. Check both the server’s expectations and a plugin’s current compatibility; plugins are not universally accepted or required to play well. Build reliable habits through play
- Communicate clearly and listen to other players rather than treating every encounter as a contest to win.
- Make character choices that fit the situation and remain consistent with the server’s rules.
- Collaborate: role-play usually depends on giving other players room to respond and contribute.
- When a rule or situation is unclear, ask the server’s moderators or consult its published guidance instead of assuming one community’s norms apply everywhere.
These are practical habits, not a universal FiveM rulebook. Each community defines its own expectations.
If you want to create with FiveM
This route is for PC. Before installing anything, confirm that your computer meets Cfx.re’s current system requirements and that you have a legitimate, fully updated PC copy of GTA V. Cfx.re says FiveM will not work with illegitimate copies. Requirements and supported game builds can change, so check the current documentation for your setup.

- Install the client. Follow the official FiveM getting-started documentation for the current client setup steps.
- Start with a local server. Use the documented server setup and txAdmin before taking on the extra work of operating a public community. A local environment gives you somewhere to learn and test.
- Make one small resource. Work through Cfx.re’s first-script tutorial, which introduces Lua and Visual Studio Code, then shows how to run the resource and explore game references.
- Change one thing at a time and test it. Keep experiments in a controlled environment, check the relevant official references when behavior is unclear, and use feedback to improve the resource.
- Learn from the community. Cfx.re points learners to its official forum and Discord through its documentation. Use those channels to ask focused questions and compare your approach with current guidance.
Building a public server is a larger undertaking than writing a first script. Establish the basics locally, learn how resources work, and expand only as your skills and goals require.
Keep modding separate from GTA Online
Do not use mods, scripts, or exploits to alter GTA Online. Rockstar’s official statement, “Update: Targeting Cheaters in GTA Online,” warns that tampering with Online—including installing or executing mods, modifying game files, or manipulating the game while it is running—can result in disciplinary action, including placement in the cheater pool, bans, or possible account suspension. The statement is older, so check Rockstar’s current policies as well; do not treat any file-management or folder-switching method as a guarantee of account safety.

Rockstar also publishes mod guidelines. The available page is in French. It cautions against using Rockstar intellectual property or logos in a way that suggests a mod or custom server is endorsed by or affiliated with Rockstar, and discusses broader limits involving intellectual property and commercial use. Consult the current guidelines in your preferred publication language before relying on a detailed interpretation.

- As a player: you understand your chosen server’s rules, communicate and collaborate effectively, and adapt to that community’s expectations.
- As a creator: you can set up a local environment, explain what your resource does, test changes, and use official references or constructive feedback to improve it.
Those are practical milestones, not official titles or certifications. Choose the path that matches what you want to do, and build skill through steady practice rather than relying on a mod installation to do the work for you.
