In Resident Evil 2, Leon’s ability to take damage without turning into a zombie does not mean he is immune to the T-Virus. A secondary explanation is that gameplay hits and bites are not necessarily events that happen to Leon in the story: he is not canonically shown as bitten or scratched. That distinction answers the RE2 question, but it should not be treated as an explanation for Leon’s condition in the newer Resident Evil Requiem.
Why Leon is not infected in Resident Evil 2
The simplest explanation is the difference between what the player experiences and what the story establishes. Leon can take damage during gameplay, but that damage does not automatically mean he was infected in the narrative. A 2023 secondary FAQ from Vintage is the New Old explains that Leon is not canonically bitten or scratched in Resident Evil 2.

This is a secondary explanation, not a quoted or confirmed statement from Capcom. It supports the distinction between gameplay and story canon; it does not establish that Leon has a special biological resistance to the T-Virus.
Does that mean Leon is immune to the T-Virus?
No. The RE2 explanation does not establish immunity. It says that the player’s experience of taking damage should not be read as proof that Leon suffered a story-world infection. Avoid treating his survival through gameplay as evidence of a canon immunity.

- TERRIFYING ZOMBIES WAITING AROUND EVERY CORNER -- Driven by insatiable hunger, these creatures act on instinct, gnashing their teeth, ripping at flesh, and devouring their victims. The new immersive camera lets you feel their fangs as they sink into your flesh.
- RACCOON CITY, REBUILT IN INTRICATE DETAIL -- The characters, environments, and story have all been rebuilt from the ground up to create a terrifying world that feels both nostalgic and new.
- NEW FOR PLAYSTATION5 – Upgraded features new to the PlayStation5 version of the game include a higher frame rate, 3D audio, added ray tracing, and engaging DualSense support for Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers.
Likewise, a vaccine or treatment mentioned elsewhere in the series is not evidence that Leon is protected from the T-Virus. Capcom’s Anti-C information concerns the C-Virus, a different virus in a different storyline, and does not explain Leon’s RE2 status.
What about Leon in Resident Evil Requiem?
Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth main installment in the series, announced by Capcom for release on February 27, 2026. Capcom’s official announcement and 2025 Integrated Report establish the game and its place in the franchise, but the official pages cited here do not explain Leon’s condition in its plot. The RE2 gameplay explanation should not be carried over as a definitive answer about Requiem.
