You can’t literally become a fairy: no verified method exists. “How to become a fairy” can also mean learning what folklore says or finding a fairy-inspired look and activity. Those are real options—as folklore study, costume, and imaginative play, not supernatural transformation.
What folklore says about fairies
Fairy traditions vary by place and storyteller; they are not a single set of rules for becoming one. Historical collections record beliefs and stories, not evidence that fairies exist or that people can transform into them.
Welsh Tylwyth Teg
In Folk-lore of West and Mid-Wales, Elias Owen records beliefs about the Tylwyth Teg, including descriptions of their appearance, character, names, and stories. The collected tradition portrays them as humanlike, with accounts of both kindness and revenge. This is a record of Welsh folklore, not a factual guide to supernatural beings. Read Owen’s account.
Fairy beliefs in County Leitrim
Leland L. Duncan’s 1896 article, “Fairy Beliefs and other Folklore Notes from County Leitrim,” reports a different local tradition. Duncan’s informants reportedly conceived fairies as the size of ordinary mortals and able to change shape. That describes what people in the recorded tradition believed; it does not show that fairies change shape or explain a way for humans to do so. Read Duncan’s account.

Steer clear of dangerous online instructions
Some online “how to become a fairy” instructions have circulated as dangerous parody. Elena Yugai’s discussion of a Russian online meme in Forum for Anthropology and Culture notes that parody can be mistaken for serious instructions. Don’t follow any directions involving injury, poisoning, fire, or self-harm; choose safe creative play instead. Read Yugai’s discussion.
