The Demi-Fiend is an optional superboss unlocked through the Return of the True Demon quest. A PowerPyx guide recommends a level-99 party and describes a fast, one-turn burst strategy on Safety difficulty—but that finish depends on a critical hit and is not a guaranteed result on other difficulties or builds.
How to unlock the Demi-Fiend fight
According to PowerPyx’s 2024 guide, the encounter is at the end of the optional Return of the True Demon quest. Follow this sequence:
- Accept Return of the True Demon from Maria in the World of Shadows.
- Defeat all nine bosses in the quest.
- Return to the World of Shadows. Maria will open the “???” area at a Leyline Crossing.
- Enter that area and reach the Demi-Fiend at its end.
PowerPyx reports that the encounter is available in both Canon of Creation and Canon of Vengeance. These unlock details are from that guide, rather than an official Atlus walkthrough. Read the PowerPyx Demi-Fiend guide.
What to prepare before the battle
The quick route below is a specialized strategy, not a universal level check or a general-purpose party recommendation. For its Safety-difficulty build, PowerPyx recommends a level-99 Nahobino and level-99 demons, at least 150 Strength on Nahobino, and a full Magatsuhi gauge when entering.

Massively expanded with new areas, demons, and music, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance features more accessible gameplay, an improved battle system, new demon experiences, and greater field exploration.
- A Tale of Vengeance or Creation: Which path will you choose? Experience a brand-new tale of revenge by the fallen or the original story of Shin Megami Tensei V, both filled with conflicting and tragic choices, forcing you to confront which ideologies you are willing to fight for. As order and chaos crumble around you, forge your own path to dictate the fate of humanity.
- Explore a Post-Apocalyptic World: Battle through a decimated Tokyo, reduced to an expansive wasteland and overrun by mythical demons. Roam across wide, open areas and explore new locations for life-saving items or encounter hundreds of familiar demons and dozens of new ones to battle or befriend as allies.
- Physical defense: The build uses Repel Physical or Drain Physical to counter the opening attack. PowerPyx associates access to those skills in its recommended build with progression through the Canon of Creation true ending. Null Physical is its weaker fallback.
- Party: The described lineup uses Nahobino, Demeter, Cleopatra, and Mara, each with a specific role in the burst sequence.
- Skills: Prepare Charge and Murakumo for Nahobino, Luster Candy for Demeter, Frolic for Cleopatra, and Omagatoki: Savage for Mara.
These are requirements for the guide’s particular approach, not confirmed prerequisites for unlocking or winning the fight by other means. The guide says its method mainly works on Safety; on higher difficulties it may take longer and carry more risk.
PowerPyx’s Safety-difficulty burst sequence
- Enter with a full Magatsuhi gauge. Have the prepared party and skills ready before starting the encounter.
- Counter the opening attack. PowerPyx says the Demi-Fiend opens by summoning three demons and using a party-wide physical attack. Its Repel Physical or Drain Physical setup can turn that opening into a no-damage enemy turn. Null Physical is not equivalent protection.
- Charge with Nahobino.
- Use Luster Candy with Demeter.
- Use Frolic with Cleopatra.
- Activate Omagatoki: Savage with Mara, then pass the action onward.
- Use Murakumo with Nahobino. PowerPyx says a critical hit can defeat the Demi-Fiend immediately in this Safety setup.
The final hit is conditional: a critical is needed for the reported instant finish. If it does not occur, the one-turn outcome is not assured; the source does not establish a universal follow-up plan for every party or difficulty.

How Vengeance’s level cap affects preparation
Do not treat level 99 as a universal requirement for this boss. It is PowerPyx’s recommendation for its Safety route. In a June 4, 2024 developer overview, Atlus Game Director Shigeo Komori said that after specified conditions the level cap can rise from 99 to 150 and Godborn difficulty can unlock, with enemies at level 150. That establishes version context, not a Demi-Fiend-specific level requirement. Read the PlayStation Blog overview.
Vengeance is an expanded release with a new storyline, areas, demons, and choices. Atlus lists it for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows/Steam, and Nintendo Switch; check the platform and edition you own when applying version-specific advice. See Atlus’s official Vengeance page.
