Against the troll encounter described in the available guide, stay on the ground and pressure its legs and hindquarters while it moves normally. When it starts flailing or rampaging, get clear; climb only when it is exhausted or you see a safe opening. How to fight a troll
- Set up for the fight. Consider your party’s vocation mix and the terrain around you. PlayStation’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 page likewise advises taking party setup, terrain, and enemy strengths and weaknesses into account.
- Attack from the ground. Focus on the legs and hindquarters while the troll is moving normally. Watch its movements instead of committing to a long attack sequence.
- Disengage when it ramps up. If it begins flailing or throwing itself around, move out of its immediate attack space. Continuing to attack—or clinging through a broad slam—can leave you exposed.
- Climb only when there is an opening. The encounter guide warns that the troll may throw itself backward to crush a climber. Wait until it is exhausted or clearly slowing, then climb if you can do so safely; leave before your stamina runs low or the troll reacts.
- Adjust to the situation. If the troll closes distance, ranged attacks may be difficult to land safely. Use moments when you have space, and rely on allies rather than assuming you can hold a clear firing lane throughout the encounter.
These troll-specific tactics come from Insider Gaming’s encounter guide. Capcom’s manual confirms the general mechanic of clinging to larger foes; dashing before jumping and clinging can also knock a foe off balance. That general mechanic does not make climbing safe at every point in this fight.

A mixed party can cover defense, precision, evasion, and support. The useful choice depends on the openings you can create, the terrain, and what your party can do—not on a confirmed universal counter.
Use pawn knowledge, but don’t assume a weakness
Capcom’s French manual explains that elemental weaknesses can increase damage and that knowledgeable pawns can advise you about enemies’ weaknesses and resistances. Treat a pawn’s information as a useful in-game clue, not as proof of a specific weakness if none is identified. The reviewed sources do not establish a troll-specific weakness, health value, level recommendation, or drop table.

Are trolls found in caves?
