Two registered hits can therefore kill a player who starts at full health, provided they do not heal or otherwise change the outcome.
How much damage does the Eye of Reach do?
Rare lists the Eye of Reach’s player damage as 70 per hit. Its combat-balancing post explains that the damage was reduced from 80 to 70 as part of changes to projectile speed and damage consistency. The Sea of Thieves Wiki describes a hit as 70% of a player’s health bar.

How many shots does it take to kill a player?
At full health, a player can be killed by two registered Eye of Reach hits: the first removes 70% of the health bar, and the second supplies enough damage to finish the remaining health. This assumes the target does not heal and no other effect changes their health between shots.
Does damage decrease at long range?
Rare said it removed damage scaling by distance because long-range hits could feel inconsistent. The company also described improving projectile speed and setting Eye of Reach damage to 70. Range and hit registration are separate considerations: the published change says damage no longer decreases over distance, but it does not guarantee that every shot will register.

Why might a hit seem to do no damage?
Rare’s support article, Hit Registration Issues, last updated April 16, 2026, says that intense movement simulation can prevent a shot or strike from causing damage, and that poor server performance can continue to affect hit detection. A shot that fails to register is different from a registered hit dealing less than the weapon’s base player damage.
Does it deal 70 damage to every enemy?
The 70-damage figure and the two-hit calculation here concern player health. The cited sources do not establish that the Eye of Reach deals the same damage to every PvE enemy or creature.
