On MapleStory’s Japanese service, start the [Tutorial] Let’s Start Fishing! quest from the lightbulb icon and complete it to reach Fishing Village. There, speak to Nurin to travel to a fishing ground. These steps come from Nexon Japan’s notice for the 2016 ver. 3.54 update; they are not confirmed as current instructions for Global or every regional service.
How to reach a fishing ground on the Japanese service
Nexon Japan’s ver. 3.54 notice describes this route:
- Click the lightbulb icon on the left side of the game screen and accept [Tutorial] Let’s Start Fishing!
- Complete the tutorial. The character is moved to Fishing Village and receives a Fishing Chair, a Fishing Materials Bag, and earthworms, which the notice identifies as basic bait.
- In Fishing Village, talk to Nurin and choose the Spirit Fishing Ground, Dreamy Fishing Ground, or Deep Sea Fishing Ground.
- At the destination, double-click the Fishing Chair in your inventory, then choose bait in the prompt to begin fishing.

Eligibility and returning to Fishing Village
Who can start
The Japanese notice says characters must be level 33 or higher. Zero characters can accept the fishing content after completing Story Chapter 2. Requirements may differ by service. Nexon Japan’s eligibility notice

Return route
To go back to Fishing Village later, click the book icon, select the fishing-rod icon in its list, then click the Fishing Village button in the fishing UI, as described in Nexon Japan’s notice. Nexon Japan’s fishing update notice
What Global players should know
Global-service availability is not established by the available official instructions. A May 2017 Nexon Global forum post recalls going to Angler’s Rest, selecting the first fishing area available to that player, and using a Fishing Chair with bait; it is a historical player report, not a current official guide. A community Reddit post said the fishing system was due for removal in the October 2020 v217 update, but an official removal notice was not verified. Do not assume either that the old route still works or that fishing was removed: check whether the tutorial quest appears in your current game, and consult Nexon’s current regional patch or support information if it does not. Fishing Village is the hub for the three grounds named in Nexon Japan’s notice. It also mentions fishing quests and Ruby, an NPC who exchanges fishing rewards. Those are follow-on activities; the notice does not make them prerequisites for reaching a ground. Nexon Japan’s fishing update notice
