To record in-game video in Phasmophobia, aim the Video Camera at a recordable event and hold your configured USE input while the camera indicates it can capture footage. Find the clip in the Journal’s Videos area. You can record up to five videos per investigation.

How to record a video

  1. Take the in-game Video Camera.

  2. Aim it at the event or activity you want to capture. Wait for the camera to indicate a recordable target.

  3. Hold your configured USE input while keeping the camera aimed at the target. Kinetic Games’ Chronicle v0.13 update notes describe the action as holding USE; they do not name one universal keyboard key or controller button. If your control differs, check your current in-game bindings.

  4. Open the Journal and check its Videos media area for the captured clip.

What can you record?

Kinetic Games’ Chronicle v0.13 update notes give examples of recordable footage. The list is illustrative, not a complete catalogue.

  • A ghost hunt or a ghost triggering a Crucifix.

  • Ghost Orbs.

  • Thrown objects, moved doors, or a ghost interacting with objects such as rocking chairs or gas canisters.

  • A light source shattering, or a ghost blowing out a candle or fire.

In v0.19.0.0, the game added unique video-evidence text for shower and fuse box interactions. The same update added duplicate-evidence indicators for Video Cameras: evidence text appears faded when it is a duplicate. When choosing what to record, look for a distinct event rather than using a limited slot on footage the game already counts as duplicate.

Video limit and camera display issue

Five videos per investigation

The Chronicle v0.13 notes specify a limit of five videos per investigation. Use those slots selectively, prioritizing recordable events that add distinct evidence.

If the camera screen goes dark

The v0.19.0.0 notes say Photo and Video Camera screens disable when clipping through a wall. Move the camera so its view is clear of wall geometry if the display goes dark or recording is obstructed. Wall clipping is one documented cause; the notes do not establish that it explains every dark screen.

In-game evidence recording, not desktop capture

This mechanic uses the game’s Video Camera and stores captured media in the in-game Journal. It is separate from recording your overall gameplay on a computer or console; no physical camera or accessory is needed to capture this evidence.
