In Genshin Impact Version 2.4, you could play Windtrace with friends in a custom co-op party, but that party did not earn Windtrace Coins. To earn Coins, you needed to use randomized matchmaking. The event ran from January 13 to January 27, 2022, so these instructions describe that historical rerun—not an event you can launch today.
What you needed to play
- Adventure Rank 20: This was the event’s stated minimum entry requirement.
- Access to a Contested Zone: The game selected a zone from the areas you had unlocked. Availability depended on the corresponding region’s unlock conditions.
HoYoverse’s January 12, 2022 event notice announced that Gygax had added several new maps for the rerun.
How to play with friends—and still earn Coins
Choose between a custom co-op party and randomized matchmaking based on what matters most: playing with specific friends or earning event currency.

In other words, a custom party let you play together, but it was not the route for earning Coins. If Coins were your priority, use randomized matchmaking instead. The official Version 2.4 event context establishes this distinction but does not specify a button-by-button invitation path or an exact party-size limit.

Check map access if a zone is unavailable
Windtrace randomly selected a Contested Zone from the zones you had unlocked. If the zone you wanted was not available, check that you had unlocked its region, including the Statue of the Seven in the corresponding area.
For Inazuma zones, the stated conditions included completing the Ritou Escape Plan quest and unlocking the relevant Statue of the Seven. The event’s available Contested Zones therefore depended on your progress, rather than being an unrestricted map selection.
