First, identify where the error appears
The troubleshooting steps depend on whether you see the code in the Xbox app on a Windows PC, while launching or signing into a game, or on an Xbox console. Community reports include both Windows-app and Xbox One sign-in problems, but they do not show that the same underlying issue causes both.

- Xbox console: Skip Windows settings and PowerShell suggestions. Use Xbox Support for console-specific guidance.
Confirm your Microsoft account works
Check that the Xbox app or console is using the Microsoft account you intend to sign in with. Try accessing that account through Microsoft’s normal sign-in flow. If you cannot access the account itself, address account recovery or security issues first; reinstalling the Xbox app will not resolve an account you cannot sign in to.

If you see the error in the Xbox app on Windows
Restart the app and update Windows
- Close the Xbox app completely, reopen it, and try signing in again.
- Install any available Windows updates, then restart the PC if prompted.
These are general app troubleshooting steps, not a confirmed fix for this particular error code.
Update Microsoft Store apps
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Select Library, then select Get updates (the label or layout may vary by Windows version).
- Let available updates finish installing, then reopen the Xbox app and try again.
Repair or reset the Xbox app
If restarting and updates have not helped, use Windows app settings to try repair. The exact labels vary by Windows version; look for the Xbox app in the installed-app list, open its advanced options, and choose Repair if available. Repair is the less disruptive option. If the error persists, Reset may be available there; it can clear local app data, so you may need to sign in again.

Reinstall only if the other app steps fail
Uninstalling and reinstalling the Xbox app is another general Store-app troubleshooting option. Use the Windows app settings or Microsoft Store to remove and reinstall it, then sign in with the intended account. Interface details can differ between Windows versions. Microsoft’s guidance does not say that reinstalling specifically fixes 0x80190001.
Why community command suggestions are not a first step
Community replies have suggested PowerShell package-registration commands and reinstalling Gaming Services. In one Microsoft Community thread, an Independent Advisor suggested those steps, but the person who asked the question later said they did not work. Another thread includes a user report that clearing cache helped. These are individual community reports, not verified Microsoft fixes or evidence that the same steps will work for other people.

Avoid starting with broad package-registration commands: they affect installed app packages, and the reported outcome in that thread was unsuccessful. Do not run Windows commands on an Xbox console.
If the error appears on an Xbox console
The available community report indicates an Xbox One sign-in failure, but the reviewed sources do not establish a console-specific remedy for this code. Use Xbox Support for guidance that applies to your console and situation. PC app repair, cache-clearing instructions, and PowerShell commands are not console troubleshooting steps.

When to check status or contact support
