Icicle is a resource-timed burst specialization: build Frost Crystals and Endless Cold, line up Permafrost and Glacier Hymn, spend crystals with Frost Lance, then chain Meteor Storm during the Endless Cold window. Its damage depends on managing that sequence and acting quickly during burst, rather than simply repeating skills whenever they are ready.
How Icicle’s resource loop works
Prydwen’s Icicle guide, last updated January 24, 2026, describes the specialization’s core loop as building resources, triggering Endless Cold, and concentrating damage into its buff window. The values below are mechanics reported by that guide, not independently tested measurements. Read Prydwen’s Icicle guide.

Azul Mosaic Tile-Placement Strategy Board Game, 2-4 Players, 30-45 Min | $31.99 | Buy on Amazon |
Build Frost Crystals
Meteor Storm and Crystal Veil generate Frost Crystals. Frost Lance consumes them to remove its cast time and increase its damage. According to Prydwen, critical hits can refund crystals, which can make consecutive Frost Lance casts possible.
Advance Endless Cold
After unlocking the relevant talent, spending Frost Crystals advances Icicle’s Endless Cold tracker. At 20 stacks, the tracker is consumed and grants a 10-second buff under which Meteor Storm deals 150% increased damage, without a cooldown or Ice Energy cost. Those figures are reported by Prydwen as in-game mechanic values.

Use Permafrost near the trigger
Permafrost grants haste and Ice Energy for 10 seconds. Prydwen recommends activating it as Endless Cold approaches 20 stacks—around 17–19—so further stacks can accumulate during Permafrost and strengthen the buff that follows. This timing makes the cooldown and tracker part of the same burst plan.
Skills and setup
Prydwen lists Raincall Surge as the basic attack, Frost Lance as the main skill, and Glacier Hymn as the ultimate. Its core skill slots are Frost Lance, Meteor Storm, Crystal Veil, and Permafrost; Blizzard or Maelstrom fills the flex slot.
For bosses
Use Blizzard in the flex slot for the boss setup described by Prydwen. The guide also describes endgame talents that improve Blizzard.
For dungeon packs
Swap Blizzard for Maelstrom when you want to group dungeon enemies. Prydwen says Maelstrom pulls nearby enemies together and generates Ice Energy when it hits them. This swap trades the boss-oriented flex choice for grouping and pack utility.

Use Glacier Hymn to open the burst sequence. It creates an Ice Domain that increases your Ice damage while you stand inside it, so position yourself to benefit from the domain as you use your other skills.
A practical burst rotation
- Build resources. Use Meteor Storm and Crystal Veil to generate Frost Crystals while spending crystals to advance Endless Cold. Keep track of the approaching 20-stack trigger.
- Prepare Permafrost. When Endless Cold reaches roughly 17–19 stacks, activate Permafrost, following the timing recommended by Prydwen.
- Open with Glacier Hymn. Stand in its Ice Domain to benefit from the Ice-damage increase.
- Spend crystals with Frost Lance. Use available crystals to make Frost Lance instant and stronger. Watch for critical-hit refunds that may allow another cast.
- Chain Meteor Storm during Endless Cold. Once the 20-stack trigger grants its buff, use Meteor Storm repeatedly during the 10-second window. The guide reports that Meteor Storm has no cooldown or Ice Energy cost during this buff.
- Build again as cooldowns recover. Return to generating crystals and advancing the tracker, then coordinate the next Permafrost and burst window.
A Japanese fan guide describes a broadly similar cycle—using Frost Fang during Permafrost, repeating Meteor Storm, and maintaining three to four stacks of its named resource as Permafrost returns. Its ability translations and season context differ, so treat it as corroboration of the general burst loop, not a source for English UI names or exact timings: Japanese fan guide.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What makes the rotation demanding
Icicle is not a low-input rotation. Prydwen’s class comparison characterizes its burst as requiring good input speed; mistiming resource spending or cooldowns can cost damage. Semi-auto is an option, but it gives you less control over the sequence. The comparison is a guide assessment, not a universal performance ranking. See Prydwen’s class comparison.
Icicle or Frostbeam?
Prydwen’s comparison describes Icicle as more single-target focused, with a party critical-rate benefit and a demanding burst window. It describes Frostbeam as stronger in AoE and control. These are qualitative guide assessments, last updated October 9, 2025—not a universal ranking across patches or gear levels.
| Decision factor | Icicle | Frostbeam |
|---|---|---|
| Damage emphasis | More single-target focused, according to Prydwen | Stronger in AoE, according to Prydwen |
| Control | Grouping and frequent freezes are class strengths identified by the comparison | Described as stronger in control |
| Burst execution | Requires fast inputs and careful resource and cooldown timing | Not characterized as having the same Icicle-style burst demand in the comparison |
| Party utility | Comparison identifies a party critical-rate benefit | Not stated in the comparison |
| Dungeon flexibility | May require giving up a skill slot or swapping skills to fit Maelstrom | Not stated in the comparison |
Gear and stat advice depends on progression
Prydwen’s full endgame recommendation assumes level 140/150 set gear and a level 150 Relic Weapon. For that setup, the guide recommends high Luck and Crit as secondary priorities, balancing Mastery and Versatility, and lists targets of 40% Luck and 30% Crit Rate. These are guide-specific endgame targets, not universal requirements. The guide also has separate lower-level setups and priorities, so use the advice for the gear tier it describes and check whether it still applies to your region’s current game version.
What the guides establish—and what they do not
The rotation and build advice here are attributed to guide publishers, not first-hand gameplay testing. The available sources do not establish a dated DPS ranking, player-population statistic, or universal best-performing specialization. Balance and endgame recommendations may have changed since Prydwen’s January 24, 2026 update, while its Icicle-versus-Frostbeam comparison dates to October 9, 2025.
