Skyward works by building Sharp stacks and Chasing Step with Skyfall, maintaining enough Courage to keep using it, and spending those resources through Instant Edge. For burst damage, line up Galeform and Sharp Impact; between burst windows, use a flexible resource loop rather than repeating a fixed combo. The sequence below is for an endgame talent setup, not a universal rotation for new characters.

How Skyward’s resource loop works

Wind Knight is a lance-wielding DPS class with two specializations: Skyward and Vanguard. Skyward mixes aerial launches and diving attacks with grounded actions, so playing it well means tracking resources while changing state. The specialist guide describes Skyward as technically demanding and dependent on Crit Rate and endgame talents; those are guide assessments, not official developer ratings. See Prydwen’s Skyward guide.

Courage pays for Skyfall

Courage is the resource used to cast Skyfall. Prydwen lists baseline Courage regeneration at 3 per second, with talents and cooldowns able to improve it. The guide treats Skyfall as the primary way to generate Sharp and the only Courage spender in its explanation of the loop. Avoid spending Courage so freely that you cannot use Skyfall when you need more Sharp.

Sharp feeds Instant Edge

Sharp is the central stack resource. Skyward’s Spec talent grants an attack buff while you have Sharp stacks; in the guide’s endgame build, six stacks correspond to at least a 36% attack increase for most of the rotation, at 6% per stack. The guide also describes a Momentum Surge variation with a higher per-stack buff and totals that vary with nearby enemy count. These values depend on the talent setup, so do not treat them as fixed across builds.

Critical Skyfalls build Chasing Step

Chasing Step is generated when Skyfall critically hits, according to the guide. Endgame talents strengthen Instant Edge, including its damage, Sharp refunds, and the doubled critical chance of the ability used with it. This makes Crit Rate valuable for more than raw damage: it also affects how reliably the resource loop comes together. Because Chasing Step generation depends on critical hits, the same input sequence can produce different results from one attempt to another.

Wind Fury changes the follow-up skills

With the relevant Sharp Impact talent, Sharp Impact grants Wind Fury. The Sharp Long Breath talent changes Falcon Toss into Azure Sever, which generates three Sharp stacks. While Wind Fury is active, Tornado Dance makes Instant Edge and Azure Sever create damaging Tornados; Prydwen says up to three can be active at once, each for three seconds. These effects require the corresponding talents.

Recommended skills and what each contributes

Prydwen’s recommended endgame loadout includes the following six skills:

  • Skyfall: Generates Sharp and spends Courage; use it to build the resources for Instant Edge.
  • Typhoon Cleave: Restores Courage, making it useful when the loop stalls because you are out of Courage.
  • Galeform: A key burst cooldown to align with Sharp Impact.
  • Falcon Toss: Becomes Azure Sever with Sharp Long Breath and generates three Sharp stacks.
  • Instant Edge: Spends Sharp and Chasing Step in the main damage loop.
  • Sharp Impact: Part of the burst window and, with the relevant talent, the source of Wind Fury.

Use the talent-specific effects only if your build actually has those talents; the skill names alone do not guarantee them.

Endgame burst sequence

Prydwen explicitly warns that Skyward does not have one fixed rotation: Chasing Step depends on critical-hit RNG, skill cadence changes with gear, and Courage regeneration varies with cooldowns and combat state. The following is a reference burst for the guide’s recommended max-level talent tree, not a leveling rotation or a sequence that will fit every character. Refer to the specialist guide for its talent context.

  1. Use any available Battle Imagines.
  2. Cast Galeform, then Sharp Impact.
  3. Use Instant Edge while grounded.
  4. Cast Skyfall three times.
  5. Use Instant Edge twice: once airborne and once grounded.
  6. Use Azure Sever, the enhanced Falcon Toss granted by the relevant talent.
  7. Cast Skyfall until you reach six Sharp stacks.
  8. Use Instant Edge twice: once airborne and once grounded.

With enough Crit Rate, Prydwen says an additional Sharp Impact charge may allow a second burst loop. If Sharp Impact is unavailable after the final Instant Edge, move into downtime actions instead of forcing the sequence. The guide also cautions that insufficient attack speed can leave cooldowns expiring before the sequence finishes. As an optional animation optimization, it notes that jumping immediately before Sharp Impact can cancel part of the animation.

Downtime and resource recovery

When the burst sequence is not available, conserve resources and spend Sharp stacks rather than waiting idle for a perfect setup. Prydwen gives this rough fallback:

  1. If you are out of Courage, use Typhoon Cleave to restore it.
  2. Use Skyfall until you have three Sharp stacks.
  3. Use Instant Edge to spend the stacks.

Galeform and Sharp Impact each last 15 seconds in the guide’s rotation advice, so align their use to keep their effects together during a burst window. The exact timing still depends on your cooldown state and how quickly you generate Chasing Step.

Stats and gear depend on progression

Prydwen’s high-level gear recommendations assume level 140/150 set gear and a level 150 Relic Weapon. For that setup, its tuning guidance uses one Haste reforge to reach a target of 1,114 Haste, then puts remaining reforges into Crit; it treats Versatility and Mastery as equal-value secondary substats. These are recommendations for the specified endgame setup, not universal requirements for leveling or a guarantee of best-in-slot status after later balance changes.

The same guide has a separate “Optimal Season 1 Endgame Gear” subsection based on level 80 gear and a level 90 weapon. Because the advice is tied to different progression assumptions, check the live guide and your in-game patch state before copying a gear target. The guide’s Battle Imagine suggestions are Goblin King or Celestial Flier with Muku Chief in its premium section, Emerald Caprahorn with Muku Chief as an F2P option, and Rorola as a universal option. Its listed modules include Strength Boost, Crit Focus, and Elite Strike; its damage alchemy consumable is Wind Serum. These are in-game build suggestions.

Starting out before specialization unlocks

Before choosing a specialization, the class overview recommends Galeform, Spiral Thrust, and Breach Pursuit as a Wind Knight setup. It advises following the specialization-specific guide after unlocking a spec, using free Imagines while leveling, and waiting to make crafted Imagine choices until you know which specialization you want. See Prydwen’s Wind Knight class overview.

Is Skyward the right Wind Knight specialization?

Skyward suits players willing to manage Sharp, Chasing Step, Courage, and aerial-grounded positioning. Its airborne state can help avoid some mechanics, but mistakes can leave you stranded in the air. Vanguard is the other Wind Knight option: the class overview describes it as a reactive, fast-paced specialization with a chance-triggered ability loop and Courage-consuming Valor Cyclone. The distinction is mainly about play pattern; this guide’s rotation and talent details apply to Skyward.

Prydwen’s specialist page lists an update tracker date of 24 January 2026. Its mechanics and build recommendations are nonofficial guide analysis, and balance changes after that date are not established here. Treat exact values and optimization advice as guide-specific rather than developer-confirmed or independently tested.
