Set the difficulty with a command

Open the chat or command entry area.

If the command is unavailable
You need permission to use commands. The setting to enable that permission depends on the edition and whether you are playing alone or on a server.
Bedrock single-player
Open the world’s Game settings and turn on Allow Cheats. Be aware that enabling cheats permanently prevents achievement unlocking in that world, even if you later turn cheats off. Minecraft documents this consequence in its command guide.

Java single-player
When creating a world, enable Allow Commands. For an existing world, use the option to allow commands in World Options.
Multiplayer
You need a sufficiently high permission level to run commands. On someone else’s server, ask the owner or administrator to grant the required access.

If Minecraft rejects the command

Check that the command is spelled
/difficulty peacefuland includes the initial slash. -
Confirm that commands are enabled for your world or that you have permission on the server.

Use the in-game command suggestions or autocomplete to check which arguments are available in your installation.
What changing to Peaceful can affect
Peaceful is a difficulty setting, and game activities may depend on the selected difficulty. For example, a Minecraft Education lesson notes that a particular zombie-pig activity will not work on Peaceful.
