To join the Arena, travel to the Arena District in the Imperial City, speak with Hundolin, then talk to Owyn in the Arena Bloodworks. Choose and equip an Arena Raiment before asking Owyn to arrange your first match. You can reach the Arena after the opening sewers, once you enter the open world.
How to join the Arena
- Reach the Imperial City. The Arena is in the city’s Arena District; no separate purchase or quest prerequisite is required once you can explore the open world. A Remastered trophy guide says you can join immediately after leaving the opening sewers.
- Speak with Hundolin. Find him in the Arena District and ask about becoming an Arena combatant.
- Talk to Owyn in the Arena Bloodworks. Go inside and speak with Owyn, the Blademaster, then choose either the light or heavy Arena Raiment.
- Equip the raiment. Put on the Arena Raiment before asking Owyn to arrange a match. Choose its weight according to your character’s armor preference.
- Fight and report back. Enter the Arena and win the match, then return to Owyn to close it out and collect your reward. The Arena walkthrough reports a 50-gold reward for a Pit Dog victory, with rewards increasing at higher ranks.
How Arena matches and ranks progress
Owyn is the contact for the regular Arena match loop: after a victory, return to him, complete the conversation, and arrange the next match when available. Repeat this process to progress through the ranks. The match and reward details above are reported by the Remastered walkthrough and trophy guide.
What to do if Owyn will not start a match
Bethesda Support documents progression problems involving the game failing to recognize the time or equipped raiment. Try its listed recovery steps in this order, saving first when possible:
- Reload a save from before you entered the Arena area.
- Fast travel somewhere else, then return to the Arena.
- If the raiment is not registering, use a bound-equipment spell, remove the bound equipment, and then re-equip the Arena Raiment.
- Leave the area and wait three in-game days before returning.
- Restart the game.
- If you use mods or add-ons, disable or remove them and check whether progression resumes.
Bethesda also recommends saving before entering the Arena and between rounds.

How to reach the Grand Champion challenge
After progressing through the regular ranks, you can challenge Grand Champion Agronak gro-Malog. The walkthrough says to speak with Ysabel about the fight, then follow the challenge dialogue with Agronak and Ysabel to begin it. If you want to complete “Origin of the Grey Prince,” do that quest before starting the challenge: the walkthrough says completing it first changes the encounter.
