What is free in The Sims 4?
The base game
EA makes The Sims 4 base game free to play on PC, Mac, Steam, PlayStation and Xbox. Download it through EA or the official store for your platform. The base game is separate from its downloadable content: getting it for free does not unlock the paid packs. EA’s free-to-play FAQ states that the current DLC catalog remains at its manufacturer’s suggested retail price. The live EA store listings show current offers and prices, which can vary by region.
Specific free content releases
EA also releases some content for free. Its in-game Marketplace is the official storefront for downloadable content, including content from EA and approved Sims Makers. EA announced Free Maker Drops beginning June 11, 2026; these are particular releases, not a promise that paid packs will become free. Look in the Marketplace for available drops and their claim instructions. How to get the game and check for free content
- Install the base game: Find The Sims 4 in the EA app or your official platform store and download the base game. Confirm that you are selecting the free base game, not a paid add-on.
- Check the Marketplace: Open The Sims 4 and visit the in-game Marketplace to see which free content is currently available. Follow the listing’s instructions to claim or download it.
- Check packs individually: Search the EA store or your platform’s official store for each pack. Review the displayed price, region and any eligibility conditions before purchase.
Do subscriptions or trials unlock every pack?
No all-packs-free entitlement is established by EA’s cited membership information. EA Play currently advertises a discount on digital purchases; a discount is not the same as free ownership of every add-on. EA’s 2022 announcement described specific Sims 4 membership bundles at that time, but it does not establish a current, universal benefit. Trials are temporary, not a way to permanently claim all DLC. EA’s Discover University page describes a historical weekend-limited trial with specific client and membership conditions; it should not be treated as an offer available now unless EA confirms it. How to tell whether a pack is actually yours
A pack listed as paid requires either purchase or a valid official entitlement on the account and platform you use. A free base-game download, a temporary trial, a subscription discount and a free content drop are different things; none by itself means you own the complete DLC catalog. Confirm the pack appears as owned or available to download in the official store or game library associated with your account.

Why avoid unofficial “all packs free” downloads?
EA’s cited official sources identify its store and Marketplace as the channels for the game’s downloadable content; they do not verify third-party offers of every paid pack as legitimate or safe. Avoid cracked DLC, account-sharing schemes and tools that claim to bypass purchase or license checks. Use official stores and entitlements to reduce the risk of compromised accounts, unsafe downloads or content that cannot be supported.
