You can’t turn off Roblox’s standard filter for ordinary experience chat. Roblox does offer a separate “fewer filters” option for some eligible, age-checked users chatting with trusted friends, but it is not a universal filter-off switch. If chat is missing or disabled, check your communication settings or ask a linked parent to review parental controls.
Why Roblox chat is filtered
Roblox says filtered chat is the default for eligible communication on the platform, including chat in experiences and Friends Chat. In experiences, messages are filtered to block inappropriate content and personally identifiable information. What hashtags mean
Hashtags in a message mean Roblox blocked a word or phrase. Roblox also says some messages may be automatically rephrased. A hashtag is not a setting you can remove; it indicates that the filter intervened.
Can you use chat with fewer filters?
Roblox documents a separate trusted-friend text-chat feature with fewer filters. It is limited to eligible users who have completed an age check, and access depends on age group, trusted-friend status, and region. Roblox says users under 13 cannot access this feature; age-specific parental-consent requirements may also apply. This feature is not the same as ordinary experience chat: it does not switch off the standard experience-chat filter. Fewer filters also does not remove Roblox’s rules, and some content, including links or rule-breaking language, may still be blocked.
Check whether chat is enabled
If you’re trying to restore access to chat rather than change filtering, review the communication controls for the account. Roblox lists this path for a user’s own settings:

- Open Settings.
- Go to Privacy & content restrictions.
- Select Communication, then Experience chat.
For a child account, a linked parent account can manage communication controls. Roblox lists this path in its Parental Controls Overview:
- Open Settings, then Parental Controls.
- Select the child account.
- Under Settings You Manage, open Communication.
These controls govern whether and with whom the account can communicate; they do not turn off the standard filter. Labels and availability can differ by region or change over time, so consult Roblox Support if the menu or eligibility on your account differs.

What to do when a message is blocked
- Rephrase the message without personal information or inappropriate language.
- If the issue is that chat is unavailable, check the account’s communication settings or ask the linked parent to review them.
- If you want to chat with fewer filters, check Roblox’s current eligibility and trusted-friend guidance rather than using a filter bypass.
