In Retail World of Warcraft, find the hollow tree in The Azure Span at /way #2024 26.30 46.34. Collect the Tree Sap inside the trunk, then use the Stick near the top. Pepper Hammer will fly down; click the bird to loot the Blackfeather Nester battle pet.
Where to find Pepper Hammer
Pepper Hammer is part of a hidden treasure in The Azure Span. Set the location marker to /way #2024 26.30 46.34 and look for a large hollow or fallen tree. The interactive objects are inside and high up in the trunk, so look above the ground rather than searching only around the marker. A nearby coordinate listed on the Wowhead spell reference is /way #2024 26.52, 46.18; the marker is a guide to the area, not a substitute for locating the tree.
Wowhead’s Pepper Hammer spell reference lists the nearby coordinate.
How to lure and loot the bird
- Travel to The Azure Span and locate the hollow tree near the waypoint.
- Click the Tree Sap inside the hollow section of the trunk. It grants a buff that lasts five minutes.
- Click the Stick near the top of the tree while the sap buff is active.
- Wait for Pepper Hammer to fly down, then click the bird to loot the Blackfeather Nester.
The Blackfeather Nester item reference identifies the reward. The specialist pet guide describes the treasure as a one-time loot.

If the Stick or bird does not respond
If the Stick is not interactable or the encounter appears stuck, try /reload and then repeat the sap-and-stick interaction. Restarting the game is another reported troubleshooting suggestion. Neither step is guaranteed to fix the issue; these workarounds come from guide reports, not an official Blizzard support procedure.
