Nemesis error 6002 means behavior patching failed, but the number alone does not identify the cause. Start with the full error text: when it names a missing path or a failed copy_file operation, check that exact file and location before changing security settings or reinstalling tools. Then confirm Nemesis is running in the right Mod Organizer 2 (MO2) or Vortex environment, review folder access, and try broader workarounds only if the specific checks do not resolve it.
What Nemesis error 6002 tells you
The Nemesis output describes error 6002 as: “ERROR(6002): An exception has occured while patching. Report to Nemesis’ author immediately”. That message indicates a failure during patching or generation; it does not, by itself, establish one root cause.

In one report on the Nemesis issue tracker, the additional details identify a copy_file operation and say the specified path could not be found. That example makes the complete error especially useful: the operation and named source or destination path can point to a concrete file or location to investigate. It is one user’s report, not proof that every 6002 error has the same cause.
Work through the checks in order

Read the complete error output
Record the operation, file name, and source and destination paths shown after the 6002 line. If the output says a path cannot be found, check that the named file and its parent folders exist where Nemesis is running. Look for a typo, moved folder, unavailable drive, or a path that is not visible from the mod manager’s launch environment. Fix the specific path problem before trying general workarounds.

Verify the mod-manager profile and output locations
Make sure Nemesis is launched through the intended MO2 or Vortex setup and that it is using the expected profile, cache, and generated-output locations. A path visible in Windows Explorer may not be available in the same way to a tool launched through a manager. The community-maintained Nemesis Engine wiki describes different cache locations for MO2 and Vortex; follow the instructions for the manager you actually use rather than applying one manager’s paths to the other.
Also check that the configured output location is the one you expect. A secondary troubleshooting guide lists output-location setup among possible issues, but it is not official Nemesis documentation.

Check write access and security blocks
Confirm that the relevant Nemesis and output folders are accessible and writable. If Windows Security or another security tool reports that it blocked Nemesis or a file operation, review that specific event. Community troubleshooting guidance suggests an antivirus exclusion as a possible diagnostic, but the available reports do not establish antivirus as the cause of every error 6002.
If you test an exclusion, keep it limited to the relevant Nemesis executable or folder, use the narrowest option your security software supports, and remove it after diagnosis if it is not needed. Do not routinely turn off all antivirus protection.

Clear the Nemesis cache after checking paths and setup
If the named paths, manager context, and access checks look correct, try clearing the Nemesis cache using the instructions for your manager. The Nemesis Engine wiki lists different cache locations for MO2 and Vortex. Back up relevant generated output or other files you need before deleting anything, and do not remove files outside the cache locations specified for your setup.

Test compatibility or administrator settings last
If the targeted checks do not help, you can test Windows 8 compatibility mode, which the Stock Game guide suggests as a follow-up. A Nexus Mods discussion also contains anecdotal suggestions involving administrator privileges and Windows compatibility settings. These are experiments, not guaranteed fixes: change one setting at a time, rerun Nemesis, and note whether the error changes.

What not to change first
- Do not remove unrelated animation mods by default. The error number alone does not show that an animation mod is responsible. Investigate a mod only when the detailed output points to a relevant missing or conflicting file.
- Do not disable all security protection as a routine fix. A limited exclusion, if justified by a specific block, is a more contained diagnostic.
- Do not assume a compatibility setting is a confirmed solution. The cited compatibility and administrator suggestions are community workarounds, not universal or official fixes.
