That pass has expired. Eternamax Eternatus Max Battles during the same event awarded Candy and Candy XL, not a catch. The official event sources cited here do not establish whether Eternatus has since returned, so check current Pokémon GO announcements for a new route.
How the original Eternatus encounter worked
During the 2025 Pokémon GO debut, Trainers could unlock one catchable Eternatus by progressing through the free GO Pass: Max Finale and claiming its encounter reward. The pass automatically unlocked on August 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. local time; players ranked it up by completing Pass Tasks. The Pokémon GO event page says Eternatus could be caught only once during the event. Pokémon GO’s Max Finale event page and The Pokémon Company’s August 20, 2025 announcement describe that route.

Rewards unlocked on the pass had to be claimed by August 26, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. local time. That deadline has passed, so the old pass is not a current way to obtain Eternatus.
Can you still get Eternatus in Pokémon GO?
The official event sources cited above confirm the expired 2025 route but do not establish whether a later event or acquisition method has been announced. Do not assume the GO Pass is still available or that Eternatus has returned. Check the in-game News tab and current official Pokémon GO announcements for any newly announced encounter.

Did Eternamax Max Battles let you catch it?
No. During Max Finale on August 23–24, 2025, Eternamax Eternatus appeared in Max Battles at Power Spots from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time. Winning those battles awarded Eternatus Candy and Candy XL; they did not allow players to catch Eternamax Eternatus. The battle rewards were useful for powering up the Eternatus obtained from the pass, which requires much more Candy and Candy XL than other Pokémon. The event details and The Pokémon Company announcement distinguish the encounter from the battle rewards.
Was the paid Deluxe pass required?
No paid upgrade was stated as a requirement for the standard Eternatus encounter: it was a reward on the free pass. GO Pass Deluxe added rewards, including extra encounters and Eternatus Candy and Candy XL, and let players claim rewards from both the free and Deluxe tracks. Those additional rewards were optional, and the expired upgrade is not a way to claim the old encounter now.

What did the pass Eternatus know, and what was its Adventure Effect?
The Eternatus encounter from GO Pass: Max Finale knew the Charged Attack Dynamax Cannon. Its Adventure Effect could be activated for 5,000 Stardust and 30 Eternatus Candy. It boosted Eternatus’s Max Moves by one level in Max Battles for 10 minutes. According to Pokémon GO’s Adventure Effect announcement, players could extend the effect in 10-minute increments, up to two hours per use and 24 hours total through repeated use. It could not be active at the same time as another Adventure Effect.
