The Master Sword is in Korok Forest, beyond the Lost Woods. To reach it, follow the drifting embers of a lit torch through the forest, then pull the sword from its pedestal once Link has at least 13 hearts. Activate Keo Ruug Shrine in Korok Forest so you can return easily if you need to build up your hearts first.
Where to find the Master Sword
The sword stands in Korok Forest, in Great Hyrule Forest. The route runs through the Lost Woods, whose mist sends Link back to the entrance if he leaves the safe path.
How to get through the Lost Woods
-
Enter the Lost Woods in Great Hyrule Forest and follow the misty route toward Korok Forest.
-
Use a lit torch as a guide. Watch which way its embers drift and follow that direction to stay on the safe path.

If the mist returns Link to the entrance, try again and use the embers to choose your direction through the forest.
Once you reach Korok Forest, activate Keo Ruug Shrine near the entrance. It provides a nearby fast-travel point, making a later trip back to the sword easier.
How many hearts you need to draw the Master Sword
Link needs at least 13 hearts to pull the sword free. Since he starts with three, that means gaining ten additional permanent heart containers before the extraction. The cited walkthroughs establish the 13-heart requirement; they do not establish whether temporary bonus hearts count, so do not rely on them.
Pull the sword from its pedestal
When Link has the required hearts, approach the Master Sword’s pedestal in Korok Forest and interact with it to begin drawing the blade. The extraction triggers a memory and a scene with the Great Deku Tree.

Is the Trial of the Sword required?
No. The Trial of the Sword is a separate optional challenge from the Master Trials DLC. You do not need to complete it to obtain the Master Sword.

You can make the journey early, activate Keo Ruug Shrine, and return after increasing Link’s permanent hearts. That avoids having to navigate the Lost Woods again when you are ready to draw the sword. If Link already has 13 hearts, you can simply continue to the pedestal after activating the shrine.
