The PC modding instructions use files and loaders designed for the Windows version; copying them to a USB drive does not make them compatible with the PS4 game.
Why PC mods do not install on the PS4 version
PlayStation identifies its store listing as the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption 2, including Story Mode and Red Dead Online. The listing does not advertise a mod-installation feature: PlayStation Store: Red Dead Redemption 2.

The distinction is technical, not just a matter of where files are stored. A community guide to RDR2 modding describes PC components such as Lenny’s Mod Loader, ScriptHookRDR2 V2 and Ultimate ASI Loader, with files placed in the PC game’s root folder. Those instructions apply to the PC game, not the PS4 edition: Nexus Mods: RDR2 modding guide.
A USB drive is storage, not a compatibility layer. The sources reviewed do not establish a verified method for transferring PC mod files to a standard PS4 and having the console run them. Nexus Mods pages or tutorials mentioning USB do not, by themselves, demonstrate that a mod works on PS4.

What about jailbreaks or mod menus?
Claims in community posts do not establish a safe, reliable or officially supported way to mod RDR2 on PS4. The reviewed authoritative sources do not document a PS4 modification procedure, and they do not establish that a modified console will remain safe, work online or avoid account or hardware risks. Treat claims of a routine PS4 workaround as unverified; do not follow them as installation instructions.
What Rockstar says about Story Mode mods
Rockstar’s support article, last updated September 15, 2026, says that information about its policies and guidelines for single-player or Story Mode mods is linked through the company’s Terms of Service, Creator Platform License Agreement and Mod Guidelines. It does not provide a PS4 mod-installation guide or establish permission to modify the console version: Rockstar Support: Policies and guidelines regarding Single-Player or Story Mode mods.

If you want to play RDR2 with mods
The practical alternative is the PC version, which is a separate platform purchase or copy—not an add-on that enables mods on the PS4 version. Rockstar lists a PC version of the game: Rockstar Games: Red Dead Redemption 2.
On PC, the cited community guide describes installing Lenny’s Mod Loader, ScriptHookRDR2 V2 and Ultimate ASI Loader in the game’s root folder, then checking that the game reaches its main menu. It also names Nexus Mods and RDR2Mods as mod sources and the Red Dead Modding Tool for tracking installed mods, conflicts and priorities. These are community-guide instructions, not official support; verify current tool versions and compatibility before using them. The guide also cautions that its mod-manager merge feature is incomplete, so do not assume it resolves every conflict or guarantees compatibility.
