Check the exact item and quote before you go
GameStop accepts a changing, selective range of trade-in goods—including games, consoles, controllers, mobile devices, and other listed electronics—but not every product is eligible, and participation is limited to selected U.S. and Guam stores. Search for your exact item in GameStop’s trade lookup, then verify that your intended store participates.

A quote is not a guaranteed payout. GameStop’s item-level offer terms say prices are valid only for the stated business day; final value is subject to condition, included components, and store approval. Check the offer’s expiry and confirm it is still current before making the trip. The actual amount depends on the item and date, so an example quote should not be treated as a current price for another item.
Choose cash or store credit based on what you will use
Compare the cash offer with the store-credit offer shown for your item. Cash is available in-store only, according to GameStop’s payment FAQ. Store credit is useful only if you plan to spend it on eligible GameStop purchases: trade cards cannot generally be redeemed for cash except where required by law, as explained in the gift card FAQ. It is a restricted form of value, not the same as cash.

Bring the functional parts, not unnecessary packaging
Missing components can reduce a trade value or make an item ineligible. For a console, GameStop lists the original controller, power cable, HDMI cable, and other functional cords among the parts to bring. It says original packaging and paper inserts are not required, but functional components are. See its trade-in component guidance.
Do not buy replacement parts automatically. First check whether the specific offer changes when a component is missing, then compare any added trade value with the part’s cost. The available guidance does not establish that replacing a missing accessory will increase your net proceeds.

Prepare devices for inspection
For phones and other personal devices, follow GameStop’s item-level instructions: bring the device charged, erase private data, remove SIM and memory cards, and include related chargers or accessories when required. Check the instructions attached to the exact item offer, since requirements can vary by product.
Decide whether GameStop Pro pays off for your trade
GameStop advertises extra trade value and a $5 monthly reward for Pro, but its public materials present differing annual price and benefit formulations. Terms effective July 15, 2026 describe extra trade credit for qualifying categories and specify that exclusions apply. Check the current Pro page and applicable terms before joining.

Work out the incremental value for your own transaction: add only the trade uplift that applies to your eligible item and any monthly reward you will actually use on an eligible purchase before it expires, then subtract the membership cost. A reward is not cash, and the published benefits do not establish that every trade qualifies or that Pro pays for itself for every seller.

GameStop’s graded-card FAQ says it accepts qualifying PSA-graded cards bearing the Lighthouse label in grades 8, 9, or 10; it says other grading companies are not accepted under the stated program. Payment is offered as cash or in-store credit, with a $500 maximum. Eligibility and program details can change, so confirm the live terms and store participation before relying on them.

Use a simple pre-trip checklist
- Look up the exact model or item and note the current offer and its expiry.
- Verify the chosen store accepts that product.
- Compare cash with store credit against what you actually plan to do with the proceeds.
- Bring the functional components required for the item; skip packaging and manuals unless the item instructions say otherwise.
- Charge and prepare personal devices, erase private data, and remove SIM or memory cards.
- Include Pro only if the applicable trade uplift and rewards you will use exceed the current membership cost.
