To move with WASD in League of Legends, press Esc in-game, open Options > Hotkeys, and choose Keyboard (WASD). Set up and test your bindings in Practice Tool before starting a match; Riot says you must lock in your input choice within the first 10 minutes of a match.
Enable WASD controls
- Enter Practice Tool or another supported game mode.
- Press Esc to open the in-game Options menu.
- Open Hotkeys and select Keyboard (WASD).
- Review the WASD bindings and adjust them globally or for the champion you are playing. Riot says champion-specific keybinding profiles are available and settings are saved for future games. See Riot’s Hotkeys (Keybindings) FAQ for keybinding help.
- Open the Camera menu if you want to change the camera behavior. The first time WASD is enabled, the camera switches to Dynamic Camera; Riot says you can disable it in Camera settings.
- Move around and test your abilities in Practice Tool before using the setup in a match.
Lock in your input choice during a match
Riot Games Player Support’s May 4, 2026 Keyboard (WASD) Input FAQ says to lock in your input setting within the first 10 minutes of a match. If you do not, the system automatically locks your latest input choice, which you then use until the match ends. WASD and Point & Click bindings are independent, so do not assume a key assignment in one scheme carries over to the other.
Adjust movement and camera to suit you
Movement direction
Riot documents an optional 45-degree movement setting that aligns your direction with the map layout. A later developer update also describes a map-relative option, which can make lane movement easier and reduce simultaneous key presses on some laptop keyboards. Check the current Hotkeys options to see the movement choices available in your client.
Camera behavior
WASD changes the camera to Dynamic Camera the first time you enable the scheme. If that does not suit you, open the in-game Camera menu and switch it off.

What WASD changes—and what it does not
WASD is an optional control scheme; Point & Click remains League’s default. WASD uses directional keyboard movement and provides additional camera and action bindings, while Point & Click moves your champion toward destinations selected with the mouse. The mouse is still usable with WASD for actions including attacking and Scout Ahead, and Riot says those actions can also be assigned to keys.
Riot’s WASD’s Ranked Release update reported similar performance levels for the two schemes, with a small win-rate delta favoring Point & Click at the time of publication. Riot did not give an exact figure in the passage reviewed, so the finding is not a precise prediction of how an individual player will perform.

Availability and what to do if the option is missing
Riot’s May 4, 2026 support FAQ says WASD is available across all game modes, including Practice Tool, and can also be enabled in the Tutorial. Availability has changed over time: Patch 25.24 introduced WASD in limited unranked queues and excluded Draft and Ranked during that beta rollout; Riot’s April 2026 developer article said Ranked was planned for patch 26.9. If the setting is missing in a particular queue or champion, check the live client and current patch information because support can change.

No particular keyboard model is required by Riot’s instructions. A standard keyboard with usable WASD keys is sufficient; WASD does not require buying a gaming keyboard, and a mouse remains useful for some actions.
