How to Get Into Fort Wallace in Red Dead Redemption 2

The reliable way into Fort Wallace in Red Dead Redemption 2 is during the Chapter 6 mission “The King’s Son.” Complete “The Fine Art of Conversation” and “Favored Sons,” then speak with Charles at Wapiti to begin. In free roam, a vehicle-assisted wall-entry glitch has been reported, but its current reliability is unconfirmed.

Enter Fort Wallace during “The King’s Son”

“The King’s Son” is a Chapter 6 mission in New Hanover. Its listed prerequisites are “The Fine Art of Conversation” and “Favored Sons”; once they are complete, talk to Charles at Wapiti to start it. The walkthroughs from GameWith and PowerPyx describe the mission route into the fort.

1. Talk to Rains Fall in his tent, then mount up and follow Charles.
2. Cross the river where Charles indicates and continue uphill. When he dismounts, stay low and quiet as you approach the fort.
3. Follow Charles toward the fort after night falls. Deal with the entrance guards, then circle around the perimeter.
4. When a guard checks the area, stay still and avoid drawing attention. Use a quiet weapon, such as a bow or throwing knives, on guards near the tower.
5. When prompted by the mission, climb the wall beside the guard tower to enter Fort Wallace.

Once inside, the mission continues through the fort toward Eagle Flies, then into an escape and canoe sequence. Those objectives are part of the mission, but they are not extra requirements for getting through the wall.

Gold Medal objectives are optional

You do not need a Gold Medal to enter the fort. If you want one, the walkthroughs list these mission requirements:

• Kill 15 enemies during the canoe escape.
• Finish the mission with at least 80% accuracy.

PowerPyx clarifies that the headshot requirement applies to soldiers blocking your way during infiltration. GameWith also describes using the tower and walkway, shooting a lantern to distract guards, and obtaining a jailer’s key as the mission proceeds inside.

Can you enter Fort Wallace in free roam?

An unofficial video published by Petko on September 13, 2023, reports a vehicle-assisted glitch: use a cart, milk wagon, log wagon, coach, or similar vehicle to get onto the wall and into the fort. The video presents this as a way to reach items inside, but it does not establish that the exploit works consistently across platforms or current game versions. Treat it as an experiment, not a dependable route.

Entering this way may provoke hostile or wanted behavior. Rockstar’s Title Update 1.03 notes mention a Fort Wallace issue in which Army NPCs attempted to report crimes despite being unable to leave the fort. That patch note documents NPC behavior; it does not describe or endorse a supported free-roam entry method.
