HumanitZ is a demanding open-world zombie survival game whose biggest strength is how much freedom it gives you to choose your approach. You can scavenge dangerous towns, build a rural life, or focus on crafting, hunting and exploration. That flexibility makes the game appealing, but its involved systems and modest visuals may not suit everyone.
What is HumanitZ?
Developed by Yodubzz Studios and published by indie.io, HumanitZ is an isometric, open-world survival sandbox. Its PC 1.0 release arrived on February 6, 2026, following an Early Access launch on September 18, 2023. The Steam listing describes a survival loop built around scavenging, crafting, building, fighting, hunting, fishing and farming, with vehicles, companions, weather, hunger and exposure also shaping play.

The game leaves room to set your own priorities. You can risk urban runs for supplies or try to survive more independently in the countryside. That open-ended structure is the point: HumanitZ is less about following one prescribed route than deciding what kind of survivor you want to be.
Is HumanitZ worth playing?
For a launch-build verdict, Insider Gaming reviewer Grant Taylor-Hill rated HumanitZ 8/10 (“Great”) in a review published February 6, 2026. He praised its freedom, depth, exploration and replayability, while noting that its systems can feel complex and its visuals may not stand out. Taylor-Hill disclosed that he received a copy for review. His score reflects his assessment of the 1.0 launch build, not a current independent retest.
#1 Best Overall
- CLASSIC RUMMY WITH A FRESH TWIST: Build sets, runs, pairs, and other card patterns as you race to complete your objective before your opponents.
- SEE A CARD YOU NEED? CLAIM IT: Watch what your opponents discard. When the right card appears, you may have a chance to claim it—but other players might want that treasure too.
- TWO WAYS TO PLAY: Choose the Classic Game for a different pattern each round, or try Progressive play and work through increasingly challenging combinations.
- QUICK FUN FOR 3–6 PLAYERS: Easy to learn for ages 7+ with a 20–30 minute playtime that's great for families, teens, adults, game nights, and groups.
- FROM GRANDPA BECK'S GAMES: From the creators of Cover Your Assets and Skull King, with nearly 4 million games sold worldwide.
Taylor-Hill summed up the appeal this way: “HumanitZ is about as open, free, and brutal as it gets for a post-apocalyptic sandbox.”
That makes the game a better fit for players who enjoy learning interconnected survival systems and setting their own goals than for those seeking a straightforward experience or especially polished visual presentation. That fit is an inference from the game’s listed features and the reviewer’s stated reservations, not a measured survey of players.
What changed in HumanitZ 1.0?
The developer’s 1.0 release notes describe broad revisions rather than a simple Early Access-to-release label change:
- Revised character models and customization.
- Overhauled skills and professions.
- Afflictions and a revised infection system.
- Adjustable difficulty, changes to the tutorial and quest onboarding, and a reworked map with new points of interest.
- An island area presented as endgame content.
These are changes described in the release notes; they should not be read as the result of an independent test of each system. The launch also required a completely new save and wiped servers, so existing saves and server progress did not carry through the 1.0 transition.

Can you play HumanitZ solo or co-op?
Yes. The Steam listing offers solo play, online co-op and online PvP. Solo players can set their own pace, while online modes let players survive with others or compete. The available listing confirms these modes, but does not establish details such as party-size limits or matchmaking rules.
What are HumanitZ’s PC requirements?
Steam lists the following PC specifications. Store requirements can change, so check the current Steam listing before buying or troubleshooting a system.
| Specification | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 | Windows 10 |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-8600K | Intel Core i7-9700K |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Nvidia GTX 1060 | Nvidia RTX 2060 |
| Storage | 20 GB available space | 20 GB available space |
What should you know about reviews and compatibility?
Steam’s ratings are a changing storefront snapshot, not a fixed measure of quality. At the time recorded in the listing, 73% of 4,452 English-language reviews were positive, while 78% of 229 reviews from the last 30 days were positive (Steam, 2026). Those figures can change as new reviews arrive.
The developer’s 1.0 notes said Steam Deck support was being handled post-launch because players might encounter performance or UI issues on the 1.0 build. That is a launch-era warning, not confirmation of current Steam Deck compatibility; check the store’s current compatibility information for an up-to-date status.
