Hunt: Showdown 1896 Crashing on Xbox Series X and S: What Crytek Fixed

Crytek documented fixes for an Xbox lobby crash and a separate gamepad disconnect/reconnect crash. The notes do not confirm that every crash is resolved in Update 2.9.

Yes—Crytek documented fixes for two specific Xbox crash scenarios in Hunt: Showdown 1896: a lobby crash on Xbox Series X|S in Update 2.7.1, and a separate crash triggered by disconnecting and reconnecting a gamepad in Update 2.8.0.3. Those fixes do not establish that every Xbox crash is resolved. Crytek’s Update 2.9 announcement confirms the update’s release, but does not confirm a blanket crash fix.

Which Xbox crashes did Crytek fix?

Crash scenario What Crytek says Update and date
Crash in the lobby on Xbox Series X or Series S “Fixed a crash in the lobby on Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.” Update 2.7.1, announced March 31, 2026. Crytek’s Update 2.7.1 notes
Crash after disconnecting and reconnecting a gamepad “Fixed an Xbox crash caused by gamepad disconnect and reconnect.” This is a separate issue from the lobby crash. Update 2.8.0.3, announced June 17, 2026. Crytek’s Update 2.8.0.3 notes

Does Update 2.9 mean all Xbox crashes are fixed?

That is not confirmed. Crytek announced Update 2.9 and the Blood Testament event on September 8, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The announcement confirms the update and platform availability, but does not say that every Xbox crash scenario has been resolved. Read Crytek’s Update 2.9 announcement.

So, if your crash matches one of the two documented triggers, Crytek lists that specific issue as fixed in its corresponding update. If crashes continue—or happen in a different situation—the update notes cited here do not identify the cause or provide a confirmed remedy for it.

What about crashes during gameplay or loading?

Crytek’s Update 2.4 notes listed rare crashes and freezes during gameplay or while loading into or out of a mission, as well as occasional stuttering after closing the Xbox Home screen. That is a historical list of issues associated with Update 2.4; it does not show whether those problems persisted in later versions. See the Update 2.4 patch notes.

  • TRUE 4K GAMING UP TO 120 FPS — Enjoy breathtaking visuals with true 4K resolution, HDR, and frame rates up to 120 FPS, plus hardware-accelerated ray tracing for a heightened level of realism.
  • 1TB CUSTOM SSD AND XBOX VELOCITY ARCHITECTURE — Reduce load times dramatically with the custom 1TB NVMe SSD and XBOX Velocity Architecture, enabling lightning-fast performance and seamless world streaming.

  • FOUR GENERATIONS OF GAMES — Play thousands of games from XBOX Series X|S, XBOX One, XBOX 360, and Original XBOX, with many titles enhanced for better visuals and performance on XBOX Series X.

The distinction matters: the later notes explicitly name the lobby crash and the gamepad disconnect/reconnect crash, but the available Update 2.9 announcement does not confirm the status of other crash or freeze patterns.

What should you do if Hunt: Showdown 1896 still crashes?

  1. Check which version is installed. Confirm the game has received the latest update available for your Xbox, then compare the crash timing with the documented fixes above.
  2. Note the trigger and location. Record whether the crash happens in the lobby, during gameplay or mission loading, or immediately after a controller disconnects and reconnects. The distinction helps identify whether your symptom matches a documented case.
  3. Do not assume hardware is the cause. Crytek’s identified fixes are game updates; the cited sources do not establish a replacement console, controller, cooling accessory, or storage device as a remedy.
  4. Report a different or continuing crash through an appropriate support channel. Include your Xbox model, installed game version, where the crash occurs, and what happened immediately beforehand. The sources cited here do not provide a confirmed universal troubleshooting procedure.

Are Series X and Series S performance differences a crash explanation?

No crash cause follows from the consoles’ published output specifications alone. In its 2024 launch announcement, Crytek specified native 4K at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X and 2K at 60 FPS on Xbox Series S. Those are launch specifications, not a crash guarantee or evidence that either model is more prone to crashing. Crytek’s Hunt: Showdown 1896 launch announcement.
