In Hunt: Showdown 1896, getting out with a Bounty Token matters as much as finding one. Learn the Bounty Hunt loop, choose weapons for a range you understand, listen for clues about nearby Hunters, and plan your extraction before the fight is over.
How do I get started in Hunt: Showdown 1896?
Start with Bounty Hunt: use Dark Sight to find clues, use those clues to narrow the boss location, fight or avoid monsters and rival Hunters, then claim a Bounty Token and reach an extraction point. Classic Bounty Hunt pits 12 players—solo Hunters or teams—against one another, according to Crytek’s June 9, 2026 Update 2.8 announcement.
- Find a clue. Activate Dark Sight and look for its blue-dot cloud, then interact with it.
- Check the map. Compounds without the boss are grayed out after clues are collected. When a match has two targets, the map is divided; clues narrow down the target in that section.
- Choose whether to pursue. The boss is an objective, but other Hunters are competing for the same reward. Listen and consider your route before entering a compound.
- Claim the bounty and extract. Taking a token gives your team an objective to defend while moving to extraction. Check the map and the route before committing to the exit.
Crytek describes sound as vital: creaks, animal cries, and distant gunshots can signal danger or opportunity. Move deliberately and listen; there is no single movement rule that suits every situation. Firing or moving quickly may be the right choice, but both can give other Hunters information about your position. Crytek’s Update 2.8 announcement explains the importance of sound.
Which beginner loadout should I choose?
Pick a weapon combination that suits the distance at which you want to fight. Crytek’s player guide gives close-, medium-, and high-range examples. These are starting points, not universally best loadouts; choose what you can handle and check the current in-game loadout screen because item availability and balance can change.

Bring a First Aid Kit. Crytek specifically reminds new players not to forget one, and its close- and medium-range examples also include melee options and Choke Bombs. The exact combination you bring depends on your chosen weapons and current game balance.
Account for weapon capacity
Crytek’s guide says a Hunter starts with weapon capacity 5 and that Quartermaster raises it to 6. That can affect which weapon combinations fit. Confirm current trait rules and costs in-game before spending Upgrade Points, since balance-sensitive details can change.

Traits the guide highlights
The guide recommends Necromancer and Determination for beginners. It lists Necromancer at 4 Upgrade Points and describes a distant teammate revive or, when playing solo, a self-revive. Determination accelerates stamina regeneration after it is depleted. Verify the current costs and effects in-game rather than treating these guide details as guaranteed current balance.
How should I handle extraction?
Extraction is a commitment, not a button to press as soon as you reach the point. Crytek’s player guide says the extraction timer takes 30 seconds. It pauses if a teammate is downed until revived, or if an enemy Hunter enters the point and blocks extraction. Carry the bounty only as far as your squad can defend, and check the map before starting the timer. These rules are described in Crytek’s player guide, which has no publication date shown and may lag live changes.

Where can a new player practice?
Crytek has described several onboarding options that let beginners build familiarity before relying on a full Bounty Hunt match:
- Early Bloodline progression: Through Bloodline Rank 10, monsters and Boss Targets are introduced gradually, Boss Target health is reduced for new players, and Hunter Bot difficulty scales with player level, according to Crytek’s March 18, 2026 Update 2.7 announcement.
- Shooting Range: Use moving targets and damage numbers to practice aiming and learn how weapons perform. Crytek describes it in the same Update 2.7 announcement.

How can I avoid spending too much early on?
Use free equipment and resupplies while you learn, rather than paying for every consumable on each run. Crytek’s April 25, 2025 Hunt Dollars article recommends Soul Survivor as a way to earn money: Hunters and equipment are free there, and players still earn Hunt Dollars if they die. In Bounty Hunt, a Free Hunter arrives with a contraband First Aid Kit and melee weapon, so you need not buy those again for that Hunter.

The same article suggests gathering clues and cash registers and extracting, using a Free Hunter, and drawing randomized supplies from supply points or toolboxes to save on consumables. These are dated economy tips, not a guarantee of current rewards or values. It gives an employee’s example of three clues paying 50 Hunt Dollars each during early prestige; that is an anecdote, not a guaranteed current rate.
