Break up the Kryll surrounding General RAAM with a Torque Bow shot or a frag grenade, then immediately hit him with a Longshot or Lancer while the swarm is scattered. Stay behind cover, use illuminated areas when the Kryll attack, and move if RAAM advances. Ordinary shots are wasted while the Kryll still shield him.
Where the RAAM fight happens
The encounter is in Pale Horse, near the end of the campaign, aboard the train. In the original Xbox 360 release, RAAM appears on the third train car in this section and opens fire with a chain gun while surrounded by Kryll. The swarm protects him, so first create an opening before trying to deal damage. Prima Games’ Act 5 walkthrough and Joking Joystick’s original Xbox 360 campaign guide identify the encounter and its setting.
Chapter order can vary between editions or platforms, so the train and Pale Horse details describe the original Xbox 360 retail release rather than every version of the game.
How to beat RAAM
- Prepare before engaging. Take the Torque Bow if it is available and collect ammunition for a Longshot or Lancer. Prima’s walkthrough places ammunition for both weapons before the fight.
- Get behind cover. RAAM’s heavy weapon makes standing in the open dangerous. Start from cover instead of trading fire with him. GameSpot’s walkthrough also recommends using cover and the train’s illuminated areas.
- Scatter the Kryll. Shoot RAAM with the Torque Bow or throw a frag grenade near him. Either can disperse the swarm and expose him.
- Damage him during the opening. Switch quickly to the Longshot for headshots, or use the Lancer for sustained fire. The opportunity is brief, so avoid spending ordinary ammunition while the Kryll are still around him.
- Survive and reposition. When the Kryll come after you, stay in a lit area. If RAAM advances toward your cover, move along the train to another illuminated position rather than waiting for him to reach you.
- Repeat. Use an explosive to scatter the Kryll, damage RAAM during the opening, then return to cover or retreat as needed.
Which weapon should you use?
| Weapon | Best use | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Torque Bow | Breaking up the Kryll around RAAM | Use it to create an opening, then switch quickly to a damage weapon. |
| Frag grenade | Dispersing the Kryll with an explosive | It requires a throw that lands near RAAM. |
| Longshot | Precise damage, especially headshots, while the swarm is scattered | Accuracy matters during the short opening. |
| Lancer | Sustained fire during the opening | Keep firing only while RAAM is exposed; the Kryll protect him when they regroup. |
These options are described in the cited walkthroughs; the choice depends on what ammunition you have and which weapon you can use reliably.

Why your shots may not be working
- RAAM is still surrounded by Kryll: Use the Torque Bow or a frag grenade to scatter them before firing with the Longshot or Lancer.
- You are taking heavy fire: Return to cover instead of trying to outshoot his chain gun from the open.
- The Kryll are attacking you: Move into an illuminated area and stay there while the swarm is a threat.
- RAAM is closing in: Relocate to another lit position along the train; do not hold one barricade until he reaches it.
- Your damage window ends: Stop firing, get safe, and set up another explosive opening.
