How to Play Solo in Elden Ring Nightreign

To start a solo expedition in Elden Ring Nightreign, use the expedition table in Roundtable Hold to set the player count to one, then launch the expedition. You can do this while online or offline; offline play requires a separate Network setting.

How to start a single-player expedition

1. At Roundtable Hold, approach the expedition table and open its interface.

2. Choose the expedition target, then open the Matchmaking Setting tab. In version 1.02, this setting was renamed Number of Players.

3. Set the expedition type or player count to Single player.

4. Return to the Target tab and commence the expedition.

Bandai Namco says the game remembers this setting, so subsequent expeditions remain single-player until you change it. If you selected multiplayer by mistake, reopen the expedition interface and choose Cancel Expedition before matchmaking completes. Bandai Namco Europe’s solo-play guide gives the original menu path and setting behavior.

Solo online versus solo offline

Single-player matchmaking and offline mode are separate choices. Bandai Namco says solo mode does not require an online connection, but you can also play solo while online. Online solo play can access activities that require online mode; offline mode cannot.

To play offline

1. Open the main menu and choose System.

2. Open Network and select Play offline.

3. Set the expedition to Single player at the expedition table before starting it.

The game warns you if you try to begin a multiplayer expedition while offline. The publisher also notes that Everdark Sovereign event expeditions are online-mode-only, although single-player remains available while online. Bandai Namco’s launch guide explains solo and connectivity, and its Everdark Sovereign announcement specifies the online-only activity restriction.

What changed in later updates

The menu label and some solo mechanics have changed over time, so older guides may use different wording. These are dated patch details, not a statement of the live balance or version today.
