How to Show Coordinates in Minecraft Java Without F3

Minecraft Java’s Debug Options may expose coordinate information without the usual F3 display. For a persistent HUD, consider a compatible mod or a version-checked command-block setup.

To see coordinates without holding F3, first check the configurable debug options in your Minecraft Java version: current 26.3 release notes say F3+F6 opens Debug Options. If those options do not keep coordinates visible during normal play, use a compatible HUD mod or, for a command-enabled world, an action-bar command-block setup. Vanilla Java’s reviewed sources do not confirm a built-in, Bedrock-style always-visible coordinate HUD.

Try the vanilla Debug Options first

Debug-screen controls have changed: Minecraft’s feedback page says the screen became configurable starting with snapshot 25w31a (1.21.9), while the official 26.3 release notes say F3+F6 opens Debug Options. The feedback page is not a versioned manual, so the precise controls may differ in your installed version.

  1. In your Java world, press F3+F6 to open Debug Options in versions that support this shortcut. On some keyboards, you may also need to hold the Fn key to send F3.
  2. Look through the available information options for player position or coordinates, then select the relevant entry if present.
  3. Check whether the coordinates remain on screen after closing the debug overlay. The reviewed sources do not establish the exact setting label or confirm that it creates a persistent HUD in every version.

Minecraft’s feedback discussion describes the configurable debug screen introduced from 25w31a (1.21.9). The 26.3 release notes identify F3+F6 as the shortcut for Debug Options.

For an always-visible HUD, use a compatible mod

The Better F3 HUD project describes a customizable Fabric HUD that can show selected F3-style information, including coordinates, during ordinary gameplay. Its listing reports release 1.0.1 for Minecraft 1.21.11, dated September 11, 2026. Before installing, check the project page for compatibility with your exact Minecraft version, Fabric Loader version, and any required dependencies: mod support can change between releases.

See the Better F3 HUD listing for current files and requirements. Do not confuse it with no F3!: that mod hides coordinates and other debug information rather than displaying them. Its listing names Minecraft 1.20.4 and Fabric, with a latest listed date of January 6, 2024. Check the no F3! listing if you are considering it for another purpose.

For a command-enabled world, display coordinates in the action bar

A command-block setup can update scoreboard values for a player’s X, Y, and Z position and display those values in the action bar. This is a workaround rather than a built-in Java HUD, and it requires command setup; the commands may need changes for your game version.

A community tutorial published in 2023 demonstrates this approach, but its commands are not official, versioned documentation. Follow the command-block action-bar tutorial only after checking that its syntax works in the version and world where you plan to use it. Do not assume an untested command sequence will work unchanged in a newer release.

If coordinates disappeared from the F3 screen

If you are troubleshooting missing coordinates in the debug display—not trying to add a permanent HUD—check the debug options and ask the world or server administrator whether debug information is restricted. The reducedDebugInfo gamerule is associated with reducing debug information; it is not a command for enabling an always-visible coordinate display. Server and world settings, as well as the ability to change them, depend on the particular setup.

Do not use Java’s showcoordinates as a fix based on guides that recommend it: the reviewed official feedback discussion treats a Java show-coordinates gamerule as a requested feature, not an established Java setting. The available sources also do not establish an exact, universal setting to restore missing coordinates across Java versions.
