Press U on PC, or click the controller’s right stick (R3), to switch between first- and third-person view while playing Avowed. You can also change the perspective in the camera settings.
Switch perspective while playing
- PC: Press U.
- Controller: Click the right stick, commonly labeled R3.
These shortcuts toggle between first- and third-person view, so use the same input again to switch back.
Change the view in settings
If you prefer to use the menus, open Settings and look for Third-Person View in the camera options. The option may also appear under Accessibility > Camera; menu organization can vary by platform or game version.
If the shortcut does not work
Check the active control mapping, particularly if you have customized controller bindings. Obsidian’s Patch 1.3.0 notes document support for controller keybind customization, so your current binding may differ from the default.

Adjust third-person camera framing
Perspective and camera framing are separate settings. Obsidian added a Third-Person FOV Slider to Graphics Settings in Patch 1.3.0, allowing you to adjust the field of view while using third person. The later Patch 2.1 notes also document a fix for an issue that could leave the player leaning right in third-person mode; they do not indicate a change to the view-toggle shortcut.

Third person can make it easier to see your character and more of the surroundings, which some players may prefer when navigating platforming sections. First person keeps the view closer to the action. These are preference-based trade-offs, not guarantees of better visibility or performance in every situation.
