Not through a launcher-free method documented by Rockstar. On PC, Rockstar’s published instructions direct players to start GTA V through Rockstar Games Launcher or the launcher for their copy, such as Steam or Epic Games Launcher. If you mean playing without an internet connection, Rockstar does provide an offline Story Mode option: add -scofflineonly in Rockstar Games Launcher settings, then launch the game through a launcher.
Can you bypass Rockstar Games Launcher on PC?
Rockstar’s published PC instructions do not describe a supported way to bypass the launcher flow. Its guidance is to launch through Rockstar Games Launcher or the preferred platform launcher. For BattlEye troubleshooting, Rockstar specifically advises against opening the game from a desktop shortcut, a .bat file, or Command Prompt. Rockstar’s BattlEye troubleshooting guidance names Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, and Epic Games Launcher as platform launch routes.
If you own GTA V on Steam or Epic, start it from that storefront’s launcher. The available Rockstar guidance does not establish that either storefront removes Rockstar account or launcher requirements, so using Steam or Epic should not be treated as a guaranteed way to avoid Rockstar Games Launcher.
How to play Story Mode offline
Offline Story Mode is different from starting the game without a launcher. Rockstar says Story Mode generally does not require an internet connection, and documents the -scofflineonly launch argument for offline play. Follow Rockstar’s offline GTAV instructions:

- Connect to the internet and sign in to Rockstar Games Launcher.
- Open Settings, then select Grand Theft Auto V.
- Under Launch Arguments, enter
-scofflineonly. - Start GTA V from Rockstar Games Launcher or the preferred launcher for your copy.
This setting is for Story Mode; it does not make GTA Online available offline or remove the launcher from the launch process. Online play, activation, cloud synchronization, and updates may require an internet connection. Rockstar’s offline-play guidance and its offline activation troubleshooting explain those limits.
What to do if offline play will not start
Offline play cannot be verified
Rockstar’s Error Code 133 guidance, published September 24, 2026, says to launch the title while connected when offline play cannot be verified. Reconnect, open the game through its launcher, and allow it to verify before trying offline Story Mode again. See Rockstar’s Error Code 133 guidance.

The game opens but Online will not connect
The offline argument is for Story Mode, not an offline route into GTA Online. If Online activation or connectivity fails, check that the PC is connected and that launcher or firewall issues are not blocking access; Rockstar notes that activation data may not load when offline. Rockstar’s Online activation troubleshooting covers connection checks.
“Instance already running” appears
Check Task Manager for a GTA V process that is still running, close it if appropriate, and avoid launching the game from multiple launcher paths at once. Rockstar identifies a lingering process and multi-launcher attempts as possible causes, and says only one copy can run per account at a time. See Rockstar’s instance-running error guidance.

Why disabling BattlEye is not a launcher workaround
Rockstar says GTA V launched without BattlEye cannot connect to official GTA Online servers. Disabling it therefore does not provide a supported way to play official Online without the normal launch flow. Avoid third-party bypass executables, modified game files, and unverified batch-file tricks: Rockstar’s instructions do not support them, and they can introduce security or account risks.
